TRD Pro BBS and LX 570 stock TPMS sensors?

I purchased a set of TRD Pro BBS wheels and I've asked my dealer to move my 2011 LX 570 sensors to the TRD wheels. They want almost $400 for a "fitting kit" plus labor. This doesn't include balancing.

This seems insane. Are the TRD Pro wheels really that different from the stock wheels that it requires something special to mount the sensors?

Generally speaking, do people reuse their stock sensors on aftermarket wheels or do you use some aftermarket device?
 
Ok, more details... the kit is $10.99 but 2 hours of labor to move them over plus reprogram sensors to vehicle again at $180/hr. That still sounds outrageous to move TPMS sensors.

This is at a Lexus dealer.
 
The key problem is that you're asking a lexus dealer to do it. My small independent tire shop does a swap tires, move tpms over, mount and balance for around $100. You can buy the sensor "rebuild" kit at napa for under $10.
 
You could buy the sensor kit. Install on your new TRD wheels. Then have any shop mount and balance. Shop can program or you can do it as well with an app and OBD reader. That's what I did. My indy shop wanted $40 to program but I have Techstream and Carista so did myself.

Have your 2011 TPMS sensors ever been replaced? If not, you probably want to get new ones anyway.
 
If you are using your old sensors there is no need to program the vehicle to them. I’d seek clarification on why programming is necessary.


Tires already on the new wheels? If not, why not just get new sensors and have them mounted with the tires? About $40 each for the OE supplier Pacific Industries parts, resetting the life span. Use Carista or find someone with tech stream to program your vehicle for the new sensor IDs for a 6-pack of beer. If you do Carista you now have a Bluetooth OBD module that can let you easily read/reset codes on the move.
 
550-0103 does not work for all years of 200, please edit your post to keep info clean. Also a discount tire near me couldn’t figure out getting my new PI sensors programmed, so that is far from a sure thing. They are used to dealing with their cheap clones that makes programming the vehicle unnecessary in most cases.

@beanlard I just noticed you are in Austin. If you get new sensors and have them installed I can program your vehicle for them. Would take about ten minutes.

I went ahead and deleted. I don't think I stated it was the right part for all 200 series. The OP has a 2011 LX, it was the correct part for his vehicle.

FWIW, Discount has always worked for me, both on my old 2011, and my 2016. With my 2016, I have to have them put in the LX 570 in their computer to make it work though.

What size RG's are those? Running spacers?

You didn’t state that, but the way it was phrased some other people may come along and assume. You probably know the year and model can be tricky.

Some people have had issues with denso stuff off Amazon, though mine from a few years ago worked great. Rockauto is probably a trustworthy source as long as you make sure you get the correct part.

Edit: the assumption was they had issues due to counterfeits. But as stated mine seemed genuine with no issues.

Big O Tires in Boise did mine...I supplied 5 Denso senders via Amazon. The guy doing the work has obvious past experience with Toyota TPMS...I waited 40 minutes and that was all. Around $125 for the 5 senders and $75 for installation and they work like they should.

Both the Toyota and Lexus/Toyota dealers wanted $125 per wheel. :censor::censor:
 
295/70 with 1.25” spacers.

I found the Densos on Rockauto for $30 so I’ll probably go that way.
I got burned by buying Densos on Rock Auto. Despite being genuine parts, Denso doesn't stand behind them because Rock Auto isn't an authorized dealer. Caveat emptor.

The fitment charts were incorrect, so the sensors didn't work with my model year. Even though Denso eventually agreed and admitted that their fitment information was wrong, they refused to exchange them or help me in any way because Rock Auto was not an authorized dealer. Rock Auto declined to assist because they said the sensors I bought were the correct model according to the Denso fitment information provided by the manufacturer. As the consumer, I got stuck with the wrong sensors and wasted money for both parts and installation expenses. I'm still driving around with the wrong sensors in my wheels.

Damn. Kinda makes the case for buying at least one OEM based on vin, then using the numbers on that part to decide what else to buy.
