So you can't get OIL38020TRD filters anymore? I'm sure the stock ones are OK, and I'm good about intervals, but any recommendations?

Thanks

OEM is fine. The TRD filter discontinuation is the first part listed in the Unobtainium sticky thread, so it was scratched some time ago.

If a 3UR fails it won't be because it used a factory filter vs TRD.

Another vote for amsoil filters here. Lots of threads on this both on mud and other oil related forums. As @bloc has mentioned ad nauseum (patient man for sure), there’s been effectively zero failures due to oil related issues on the 5.7L engine. Naturally aspirated V8’s are typically easy on oil, etc.

Consensus typically is OEM filters are “good enough,” but for me amsoil is what is installed on mine given better filter media comparatively.

Other than the metal ends, Fram Ultra Synthetic XG10295 seems to hold to the same ISO4548-12 standard for 99% filtration upto 20microns.

Metal-to-synthetic media bonding better than rubber-to-synthetic media bonding?

I’ve had two of the amsoil filters arrive with the glue media on the inside (clean portion) of the filter. They say it’s “fine,” and I disagree. I’m switching away from their filters from here on out.

I liked the metal cylinder on the TRD but not sure if it actually did anything or just looked cool. Been running the OEM filters ever since I ran out of TRDs and will continue to do so. Ain't broke, don't fix it, etc. And you can't beat $5 a pop.
