Didn't you have overheating problems after that requiring a new rad? Lol
Yepper. But we knew that would happen. Also it was leaking and needed a new one any ways. YOLO xD. I will say it did fry the alternator also because Toyota loves putting electrical components on the bottom of the motor. Super easy to replace too. But other then that it was all good. Would do it again but stick to the shallow sides nice and slow :p

That’s one of the first pics I ever remember seeing on MUD
Yeah man that was the first N vs S inter-club show down @ Uwharrie in Dec 2005. Some of the N Triad crew was there, cannot recall if you were there or not. Chilly weekend camping for sure.

We pulled into that opening and came across that guy and his Jeep - still on terra firma. He was a nice enough guy, we chatted a bit and he told us that he had just sold that Wrangler and was out for his last ride with it. He then pulled into that mud hell hole mess and BAM. Hydrolocked and money down the drain. His facial expression was priceless. I remember him calling his wife and trying to explain the circumstances to her. Then JP backed his old 62 to the edge of MHHM and drug the poor guy out and there he sat. 🤣

That trip was just before I bought my 40 and found MUD. I remember the thread and for a long time that pic was in rotation as one of the pics that would come up on the main IH8MUD page. Oh the simpler times of coming home from work and sitting down at a desktop CPU and logging onto MUD for hours.
As for water crossings I’ll echo what @izzyandsue said, create a wave with your movement and then go slow enough to stay behind it but fast enough to keep momentum.
@Roxx is correct it’s a lot more fun when it’s necessary but you’ll never catch me near water with gators and piranhas LOL
@jrmudder92 gave you the best advice for that mud hole if you just have to do it @Ghostrider I full send is the way to go :hillbilly:
and @fourtrax is right, at the end of the day you’ll probably be happier not spending hours cleaning mud out of nook and cranny of your 80.

Reminded me of this article I saw on WRAL yesterday:

My brain can smell Rafael's story . Reminds of Ft. Sherman, a long long time ago in a galaxi far away. Of all the creatures, the mosquitos were the worse.

If you are just asking about that mudhole, then just yeeehaw away. Otherwise it depends on many factors including depth of water, velocity, type of bottom, exit location, vehicle preparation, etc etc. But at a minimum, make sure your engine bay is ready for the wetness since the fan can kick up a lot of water up. All your differentials, transfercase, lockers breathers should be extended above the water level too to avoid sucking in water when things compress with the temp differential.
If you dont know the depth or condition, for example WarWoman or Earls Ford crossing, walk the area first to gage stream velocity, hidden rocks that moved since last flood, and general bottom condition. Then map your way in your head and drive it. You can add a tarp (or a maxtrax for that matter) on the front of the grill to prevent water from getting through the radiator and into the fan (fan can break blades too) or remove the belts (harder to do).

Then, in general, you want to create a little bow wave in front of the vehicle and maintain enough speed to keep the wave moving and your vehicle right behind it. If in doubt, you can pre-rig your winch line or get vehicles tied together in convoy format to help each other. You can see the wave below:

This video shows them doing a few crossings too, you can see their tactics. The 80 and 60 drivers are good friends of moi.

Yeah, this is the correct way to do it.

Also, if you're doing the mud hole, be sure to immediately rinse your alternator out or it won't be long for this world... rinse your radiator out as well or you may have overheating issues too.

Dont forget to make sure your tetanus and hepatitis vaccines are up to date if you get into the mudhole. EPA may turn it into a Superfund site.

Warning.....probably not safe to research that hashtag at work. Just sayin'.
