Hi all.

When i slowly accelerate, it shifts from 1-2 no problem.
Then half a second later, it quickly shifts from 2-3 and it revs before the shift.

My fluid level looks good. From my searches it appears to be the kickdown cable.
I want to replace it along with the pan drop and fluid change.

Does it sound about right? What else could it be that i can inpsect? How much can i expect to pay for this job if i can tackle it? Thanks!

Oh yea its a 93.

My 91 does exactly the same thing. I had the kick down and throttle cables adjusted did not affect that problem.I just did fluid change as well ,all the same. Be curious to know what the others think?

It's definitely the tranny cable (yours too, Bendcruiser).

Adjust it yourself. They stretch noticeably over time, so you want the little adjustment crimp much further out of the sleeve than the FSM specifies. Just go by feel and re-adjust till you get it right, like you would if you were adjusting the brakes on a bicycle.

Sounds right, I'll look in my Chilton and try and do it? Report back soon. Thanks:cheers:PS Anyone have a picture of cable location etc. ?

I thought it was the tranny cable? Thanks

Read the article...

E and L are the cruise control cable
C and J are the accelerator cable (connected to the pedal)
A and H are the throttle cable (connected to the transmission)

That's my kickdown cable correct? It has a black rubber housing instead of the red one seen in the thread

thats the one. there should be a "barrel" on it somewhere close to if not inside the boot.

and the adjustment doesn't need to be that big either. just did the green cruiser, had the same issues, flaring on shifts and so on. made an adjustment that was almost unnoticable, but solved the issues.

On my 91 that's the kick down (red cover) which I just adjusted and took it for a test ride, much better in terms of response. Did not drive long enough to see if the tranny slip will be better? Thanks for the pix.

this pic, does it apply to a 91?

you tell us. go pop the hood and look.
quarter after seven EST, you should still have daylight over there.

There is a 'barrel' inside. I losen the screws and now the barrel is inside the rubber boot thing. Runs a bit smoother but still doesnt seem right.

No, does not look like what I have. Joinerman posted what I have in the 91. I see the green modulator sneaking into the pic the 91 has a red top. It's getting dark so no more assignments today!

I think you should also adjust the throttle position sensor. Doesn't need to be accurate. Just loosen the two screws and clock it 2-3mm. You can trial and error it or do it per the FSM, but the fsm way is fiddly and has no great advantage.

The shifting is controlled electronically on the 1fz. With the TPS out it will be shifting too early. You get the slip because it is shifting at a low throttle position and the line pressure is relative to the throttle position

That's what I just did. Turned the 2 screws and got more tension on the kick down cable. Going out now with the:princess: for dinner. Report back tomorrow. Thanks Just back and it is MUCH better! Going over the pass the kick down was perfect and the tranny feels smoother overall. Thanks for all the help.

What a big difference ! I encourage everyone to adjust the kick down cable a little tighter than recommended. No more pre shifting issues or slop. Best 5 minutes I've spent on this rig so far. Thanks to all for the input.
