I am looking at purchasing a 2L-TE engine to replace my damaged in in my Land Cruiser Proda. The engine that I am looking at was taken from a toyota Hilux and comes with a 4X4 transmission. What I need to know is wether the Hilux uses the same transmisson as the Proda and would it fit?

The old 2L-TE engine developed problems in the crank and my plans are to replace the engine and swap the 3L head and HV water pump from the old that the previous owner installed when he rebuilt the engine after the head went.

The transmission in your Prado will bolt up to a 3L or a 2LTE from a Hilux (pick up or Surf). You will need to use the Prado transmission in your conversion.

If engine your are considering purchasing is a 2LTE, then you should upgrade the head with the new head you have. This is still no guarantee that you are not going to have problems with the head or engine. When installing the replacement head, make sure to carefully measure for the new head gasket thickness or just install the thickest head gasket (noted by the grade F).

Make very sure that your radiator is working perfectly. Have it removed and taken to a reputable radiator shop and have it checked out.

I am looking at a 2L TE engine from a Hilux and for $300 more I can get the transmission with it. The question is; will the engine fit into the Prado with the transmission from the Hilux or should I just buy the engine alone. I thought it would be a good deal to get the transmission so I would have a spare, but if it does not fit it will be a waste of money.

I know of the problems with the heads, the previous owner had the head go and had a major engine rebuild and replaced head with a 3L and HV water pump. The plan is to remove the new head and HV water pump from the old engine.
