Hello does anyone have a picture of the front transfer output seal? Or part #?
(I replaced it before but for some reason it is leaking. I replaced it about 50000km ago. I can't remember what it looks like though.)
I got one from toyota but I don't think it is the right seal it looks more like the one that goes between tranny and transfer. Is it not supposed to be flat on one side, because this one is not.
I asked the parts department to double check and they said it is right but I don't think it is.
thanks
john

John, some of hte seals have been modified to have a lip on the front. the rear pinion and rear t/case output seals have this now so it wouldn't surprise me that the front has it as well...
i am assuming you have a split case...90311-48009
part number:

John,
I have the same problem right now, I've replaced my tcase seals so many times, it's not funny, each time I think I just put it in wrong, but this last time before my move north, I took my time and did it right (I hope) but damn thing is still leaking. Talked to Greg and Bruce on the long weekend, and they both think it could be the companion flange is warn. You can either buy a new companion flange, or aparently there is a sleeve that is pretty cheep.
Cheers,
Deny

My $ 0.02 USD-

It's your companion flange. If you run your finger along the surface ( front to back) and feel a bump or grove that's a problem. It's fixed with speedi sleeve. Most real Automotive places sell them ( not Kragen). $$$OR sells them too.

Speedi Sleeve

speedi sleeves wear out quite quickly but in a pinch they work fine.
another place these buggers are noted for leaking is along the splines and out around the big nut behind the driveshaft. to cure that pull the nut and large washer and put a seam of silicone in reinstall the washer and nut while still wet and that leak will be gone...
companion flange can be bought at the dealer for about $250 CND...
cheers

hey John,
come by later and I'll show you
the good seals have a lip. It's probably your flange or a really fried bearing
I have the flange, seal, nut, bearings etc here if you need them.

If you make it by quick, you can see a set of 35" BFG Crawlers we just put on a customer's LC
Drool factor of 10!
