I ordered a new transfer case lever dust cover (image below) for my 9/72 FJ40. As you can see, the dust cover is smaller than the original. I ordered the dust cover from my local Toyota dealer (part number 58280-60020). I am wondering if the cutout is actually the size for a 1973 FJ40? Any thoughts.

FYI: I ordered the 3 spd shift lever dust cover for a 1971-9/72 FJ40 from a non-dealer and it fits fine (see photo).

Thanks.

Yes the torn boot installed is the style found on the post 1972 trucks.

The new one pictured is for the earlier trucks.

I used the thicker rubber boots from a 60 series on both my 40s transmission and transfer sticks. Just need to tweek the outer metal rings a little to fit'em. Much better boots than the orgs!

Thanks everyone. Later today I will head over to Cruiser Dan and order a post '72 dust cover. I would use the 60 series but I am trying to keep this FJ40 stock.

The alternative is to go to the leather store and make my own cover since I have the metal frame. Just need to come figure out how to replace the rivets. I believe I saw a rivet gun at the leather store a few years ago
