I have enough 80w 140 redline gear oil left over from a oil change and service on my diffs. would this be ok to use in the transfer case without causing any problems.

The transfer case is pressure lubricated with a pump, not a splash lubed like most gearboxes, not sure how the pump would like the 140 stuff,

The transfer case gets a lot hotter than the diffs. I wouldn't take a chance. Replacing a Tcase is expensive, believe me I know!

If you use the heavy stuff, be sure to dump it before temps start to go down in the fall. It would be OK when its HOT, but probably to thick for the fall/winter/spring. So in other words if you run it, you won't be running it for long. You could just shelve it for the next diff job.
