Picked up a 69 last year and haven't had any time/money to work on it. Finally getting around to putting some effort into it.

I pulled the 3" body lift to replace with stock body bushings and while I was under the rig I noticed there is no crossmember for the transfer case.

Looking at the AA crossmember but I am not sure it will work with how far the tcase now sticks up through the floor. I'm pretty new to Landcruisers so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Rig is a 1969 FJ40 283sbc/sm420 with 3spd xfer case

I don't think there was one.

OP states 283/420=not stock.
The AA mount may fit, otherwise unless you relocate the whole works lower to make it fit, you could make something like these in this thread:

edit: a little too late I guess:meh:

thanks for the link...So I guess I am confused as to whether installing one of these is a good idea or not. Is the rule of thumb "if you have bell housing mounts you dont need one"?

Personally I would stay away from the AA "batwing" mount. If you have a decent bell housing setup, no reason to change it. :meh:

ok thanks I'll leave it alone and move on to what to do with the trans cover

Well don't take my word on it, just my opinion;)
I'm in the if it works don't fix it crowd, but if it's causing other problems then............

More pics!:wrench:

If you look at treeroots orion install in FAQ he made a mount using a stock Chevy tranny mount. I also say no to aa propeller mount but I had one for 15 years and never had any problems other than trying to keep it sealed up

what started the whole thing was the 3" body lift that was in bad shape and made the rig almost too tall to fit in the garage. So I pulled the trans cover and pulled the body lift. While I was under there I just noticed there was nothing under the t-case and I thought that was odd, it just looked like a lot of unsupported wieght hanging off of the bellhousing. I'll take some more pics tomorrow and post them up.

This is the way Toyota did it until 8/80 when they switched to the split transfer case. The H42 transmission that they ued fron 74 until 8/80 was a lot heavier than a SM420. Plus you could add a PTO that added even more weight. The motor mounts on the rear bolted to a cast iron bell housing. The AA adapter bolt to the back of the transfer case which is made of aluminum. That area of the transfer case was designed to be a cover to get at the nut on the back of the transmisssion tail shaft. Both Toyota and Ramsey had PTOs that went there but neither put the weight that adapter would.

Wow, that does poke up pretty high.

Im running the rear mount and have had no issues with it. if you really wanted to run it I would suggest using studs with lock tight instead of bolts. Your tranny/t-case are up rather high, but I think you could fit the crossmember under there. I would suggest finding a used one so you dont get reamed :) Also check your clearance between your balancer and pumpkin, should be about 5 3/4 to 6 in.

Yeah not sure if I am going to have to get a trans cover or put another Body Lift back on it. I would really rather not have one if I can avoid it.

Thanks, I have a line on a used one if I need it, but not having one isn't causing any kind of problem, so I think I am going to leave it as is. BTW the measured distance from my balancer to the edge of the pumpkin is ~9.5in. included are some pics of how the engine sits and the mounts sorry for the bad photography

I test fit the trans cover tonight and I think if I open up the hole where the shifter comes through a little it might work. I'll also need to add some weather stripping to the bottom and patch some other holes in it but i think it's do-able

Are you running the stk frt heater?
