Transfer case actuator leaking (3 Viewers)

2014 LX 570 in for an oil change and the 60,000 mile AHC system flush. It was a garage queen until I bought at 40,000 miles and I have regularly cycled the 4 lo/hi system since I bought it 4 years ago. Dealer says the transfer case actuator is leaking and that it will cost $1500-2000 to fix? Seems a little fishy to me but there are pics of some oil underneath. I will pick it up tomorrow and look at the under carriage then but for now, what says the MUD brain trust?
I've done a preliminary search but see nothing on point.

Hi. where exactly is it leaking? from the actuator housing full of oil, or between the transfer case and the actuator?
The actuator forks also have an internal seal, (dunno part numbers)

Can't say I know much about transfer case leaks as it's not common on the 200-series.

Is it coming from the input shaft, output shaft, case halves, actuation levers, drain plug, etc? Take off the transfer case skids, give it a good clean and see where the leak is coming from.

Might be worthwhile to check the Tundra forums for potential insights?

For sure take the advice to clean things up and then verify yourself there’s a leak. I’m not sure if there has ever been a leak reported there, so it would be really unusual.

Looks like the leak is between the actuator and the T-case. I guess the question is do I just bite the bullet and have the stealership replace all the rings and seals, to the tune of $2000 while they are in there or try to just replace the gasket between the actuator and the T-case?

There's an outer o-ring (9030156009) around the actuator body, where it mates with the transfer case. This is likely the source of the leak, but it's difficult to pinpoint without at least a photo, and more likely the inspection you've already had done. It is a $2 part, but you need to take apart the transfer case to replace it, which is where the cost comes in.

A new transfer case is about $3k (parts only), and I believe that it includes a new actuator, for perspective.

I would consider how bad the leak is, and proceed accordingly. If it isn't leaking "liquid gold" 75w toyota fluid more than a drop or two, I would personally monitor the fluid level and wait for a parts sale (then replace the whole thing, and repair or sell the old one). If it is leaking profusely, I'd weigh my options between a new transfer case (sourced online and installed at home) or the repair.
