My 2000 LC with 100800 miles decided, that it was time for the transmission to quit. I have heard some strange vibrating noise sometimes when backing up it was hard to identify the source though. Then yesterday driving down the road the transmission just quit putting power to the wheels, and sounds like it has marbles running around inside. Anyone else ever had this happen?

Changed the fluid about 5k miles ago. and the fluid seems to be normal(not fried)good level.

Could be the xfer case also...

My '99 had the transmission replaced at 52K miles, luckily right before I bought it by the PO. Toyota paid for it - within warranty - I spoke to the mechanic, by luck it was at the dealership I part shop at - and he said it was a fluke. Not much help for you, but it is what I have heard. There is a slight chance Toyota might help you out with it if you contact their regional office, but at over 100K miles - not likely unless there is a service history of this vehicle that shows work before.

It will not be cheap if it is toast. Might be a specific part though and may not require a replacement, but will still be $$$. I would not drive it - even if it starts working again - until you get it looked at. Someone else on here might have more info specific to this sound...

Lucky me, my warranty expired 800 miles ago. lol. Ive started the process of removing the transmission. At first I thought it could be the transfer case but I felt the tranny pan and it was vibrating alot then felt the transfer case and it didnt seem to have any vib. I see I can pick up a rebuild for around 2000-2500$ or junkyard for about 1600$. back to work...

Yes, have your dealer check it out first. Toyota might cover it all or at least partially. Put it back together!

warranty was issued by whom?

It was a toyota certified used warranty. There is no local dealer where I live but there is one 35 miles away. None to friendly if you didn't buy from them either worth checking out anyway. Tranny is still in car, but it wouldnt be to hard to pull it now. Not anticipating any satisfaction from toyota, but what the hey. thanks.

There was a transfer and transmission on ebay for $750 recently. I don't have anywhere to store it right now so I passed on it:doh:
