Ok.. my engine is going to be back from the rebuilder soon... I need to put my tranny and transfer case back on...

which seals on both am I going to want to change for sure? I dont want to pull this thing out again soon.

Thanks!

Me:

I would replace all seals and gaskets....perhaps you should bring it down with you some weekend and we can look at it.

At a very minimum, I would replace the transmission input seal and gasket, and the transfer case output seals; the one behind the parking brake drum and the one on the nose cone…

It would be a good idea to replace the transfer case input seal, but this would require splitting the trans from the tcase.

Pushrod will be to you on Tues...

ok... I bought the toyota complete gasket kit for both...

Did you pick up any seals with those gasket kits?

If not, you will want to...

I think the only seal I have now is the one that goes from the transmission to the transfer case... I will call Toyota and order them now... unless you have them and I can get them from you... (since you told me to get them I assume you dont :D )

I have them, but you may save yourself a few bucks bringing them with you... ;)

See your PM. ;)

So apeterson stopped down today. He wanted me to re-seal and gasket his transmission and transfer case, and pick up some other goodies for his build. While doing this, I opened up the parking brake/transfer case rear output seals housing to accept two seals. It appears that no one has ever been into this thing as the three long bolts that retain the transfer case to the transmission still have the green locktite on them that comes on the new factory fastener as will be seen in the following pictures, along with the orientation of the transfer case input seal. It was very clean for being a 1975 unit. There are also pictures of the puller that I use to separate the two pieces.

Just like when you were here Ed, after the work was done, we broke out the truth serum....

Except for apeterson and MILLHOUSE....they were having them well before lunch... " You can't be accused of drinking all day if you don't start in the morning "

Poser, where did you get your transfer case puller, I've been looking for one like that for last couple years but have no luck. Thanks.

The bolts are the long pivot bolt used to mount the alternator on a 2F, iirc.
