Trailer Tires?

Any recommendations for a good trailer tire? I'll have to check the size on my metal deck car hauler...
I believe the current tires I have are "trailer king", which came with the trailer when I bought it . Recently had one of the trailer tires explode, with probally less than 5K miles.

Trailer is a dual axle metal deck car hauler type rated at 10.5K, brakes on both axles, bumper pull. I'm guessing I'm about 9.5 to 10K (trailer + 60 + crap). Trailer axles are 6 lug 5.25K or something close (I would have to look that up).
 
edit to the above....the tires in question are Power King, Tow Max ST, ST 225-75-R15, 8 ply load range d, 6 lug wheel.

I may consider going to 8 lug axle on 16inch E rated tires.... I need to weigh the trailer but I think I may be on the border in regard to the total weight, tires came on the trailer, it has two 6 lug 5,200K axles.
 
Hi, Most I've gotten lately are junk . ESP. The ones from the big box stores.
 
here is a pic of my trailer and the tire that exploded on the way home Sunday afternoon. Trailer has 5200lb axles, with the above mentioned tires. When this happened I was going around 65mph and during the entire trip I did not go much faster than that...which is not the normal pace I run...but

Just for discussion point.. At lot of guys from a different area are saying "screw" the trailer tires and go with a e rated truck tire....not a ST tire. They say they have fewer problems and the ST tires suck... I'm inclined to go with a e rated truck tire for use on the trailer. IT will be a will before I do anything but looks like I'm headed to "e-rated truck tire".
 
I tow a 30 foot triple axle trailer with a small commercial fishing boat. Weight is 10,000 pounds. In 2002, I towed to Homer, Alaska and back from San Diego with no flat tires on the truck or the trailer with Carlsisle 225/75/15 E rated tires made in USA.
Carlisles are now made in China. I blew three tires this summer on local trips and had tread separations on two more. All tires less than 4 years old and relatively few miles. Five tires replaced in three months. One of my buddies who fishes salmon with the same boat and trailer on the central California coast replaced seven this summer.
I now buy road hazard certificates at Discount tires and they can replace them for free. I looked at the other offering at Discount and they were made in China as well. I don't like where this is going...
I have not had good luck with truck tires on trailers, especially heavy trailers. I bumped into another guy on the AlCan Highway who had blown a bunch of truck tires on his trailer and was looking for trailer tire replacements.
 
Let's see if I can show you a picture of one of the tread separations on an E rated tire less than three years old!

I think with all my crap ...my trailer loaded is close to 10K, I've not yet got around to weighing it.

So I've heard from a bunch of guys that were using trailer tires and then went to E rated truck tires on their trailer and they say problem solved. (not on this thread). I want to be able to do 70-75mph with loaded trailer without concern in regard to the tire capability.

Its wierd how people can have exact opposite experiences... But its almost been universal response when I talk to "tire" people or to people who pull trailers a lot...."trailer tires suck" has been just about the universal reply.

I don't use my trailer that much and I would guess that my tires have under 3K miles and under 2 years old.

Car Hauler Trailer Tires Experience?
Ok if you pull a trailer that hauls your 40,60, buggy, camper, rock-crawler or combination thereof, and its weighs more than 7K combined weight...please reply to the below. Not looking for info on Class 8 rigs as thats out of my range.


(1) estimated or known total weight of the trailer loaded.


(2) Do you run ST trailer tires, e rated truck tires, or other tires on your trailer.


(3) What's been your experience with your trailer tires over time. What worked what did not work, what if any brand or type tire do you recommend?


What I have is a metal deck dual axle car hauler trailer rated at 10.4K (two axles at 5.2K), brakes on both axles, currently the trailer has the same tires it came with ..Power King Tow Max ST 225-75-R15, this is a 8 ply load range D tire which I understand is probably made in china.

I've asked similar questions around the board, general consensus is trailer tires suck. A number of people recommend to go with an e rated truck tire for the trailer. IF I change tires I'll go to a 16 inch tire that would probally be in the size of 225-75-16.
 
not looking at bias ply trailer tires...
