Just thought I'd share this. I'm on a tight budget and the Trail Worthy Fab tire/wheel combo was a deal I couldn't pass up. These will be going on my FJ40, replacing the well worn 36" TSL swampers it has had for these many years.

Who knew you could stuff so much tire into an FJ60?

watch the sidewalls on those goodyears..

As long as you understand that it'll make it easier lol :)

I ended up breaking down and re-assembling 10 of these tire wheel combo's,
5 for my truck and 5 for my son.

You want to eat your Wheaties before you start, this is a tough job and a lot of work. $50 per wheel for powder coating was looking pretty good by the end of the project.

It would be a lot easier with a 10HP min compressor and a 100 gallon tank. My little Huskey compressor got a real work out. The $95 1/2" drive impact wrench from Harbor Freight did pretty well for what it is. At 700 Ft-Lbs is was the most bang for the buck I could find.

BTW I don't think you can snap the studs off but you can strip the threads off if you over tighten.

I used 10oz of Crossman air soft pellets in each tire, it seems to work very well.

I'm going to take the truck to one of the local off road shops and see how much it will cost to groove those tread blocks. I think a 3/8" groove across each block will let the tire flex a lot better you can see similar grooves in whats left of the tread on my old tires.

Wanna borrow my groover?

I heard the mailman will, then I can grab it back when I come up for the con

Rubicon Follow Up report

We ran the Rubicon this weekend and these tires did a decent job. I even did some testing on the sidewalls, unintentionally, and they survived. Maybe the NATO tires have more rubber in the sidewalls than the consumer version?

I ran 8PSI and got decent flex, I'm kind of on the fence about grooving them now since they hooked up so well all weekend.

I am strongly considering these rims with the Muddog 37" treadwrights...

They are HEAVY, very very HEAVY. Make sure you are running Longfields birfs and inners.
I'm also going to need to up grade the rear brakes to disk, the drums just aren't stopping the truck fast enough.

4.88 gears would also be an improvement from the 4.11's I have on the truck now.

And so it goes, the avalanche effect.

Debating on whether to swap in a SF FJ60 rear end or built up a custom full floater using RuffStuff's full floater slugs and Nitro cut-to-length axle shafts...

Running these as well. This is the third year with them.

Long term observations -
hard to keep balanced.
Stiff when cold.
Easy to damage sans rock ring.
No traction in snow.
Negative traction when soupy.
Great traction when dry.
Loud.

Id do it again, but purchase them with rock rings and buy a spare.

Can't wait for the new style mtr to hit market.

You might want to try the airsoft pellets they are working great for me.

I agree they are stiff when cold.

Your comments on snow traction make me think I may go with siping rather than grooving. maybe both????

Ive used various amounts of pellets. Next try will be golf balls.

Both would help. Fairly certain in my circumstance grooving would have made the biggest difference.
