I was reading on this page about a trail from Mexican Hat to Moab.

Mexican Hat to Moab, Utah

Does anyone have anymore information they could share with me about this route? I will be there in Late May/Early June and would love to explore this route.

Maps, tracks or waypoints would be awesome. Even just a bit of advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

we have done parts of this route on different occasions with the Copper State Cruisers on our way to Cruise Moab - look in the CSC forum for info and post up there for more input

Valley of the Gods is a dirt road - VERY scenic

Goosenecks overlook access road is also regularly graded

Comb Ridge wash can be bad in wet weather and also after a recent rain

I came down the dugway about 2 weeks ago. Not any type of exciting. Good views, but its partially paved, really wide, and has barriers on most edges to keep the minivans from falling off. It was my first time in it. Reading the signs I was expecting something far more intense. Cool area though, once you get up it.

A couple of us in Jerry's group will be hauling offroad trailers. Are these trails trailer friendly enough?

Moki Dugway can be done with those small trailers no problem

so can Valley of the Gods

like Chris (bluecruiser) said, both are graded and two cars wide

Scenery wise, Valley of the Gods put Monument Valley to shame.:D

The only bad trail in that area is the highway, if you've never been there, you can't go wrong with any of them.

Monument Valley is looking very crass. I lost count of the tour buses and open top pickup-truck buses going in.

It looked better a few years ago when it was less commercial.

Seventeen miles down the highway and onto the Valley of the Gods road and what a difference. Spiritual in nature. No one around.

You should see Kayenta the gateway town to Monument Valley at the highway turnoff. It used to be feel like you were entering a third or fourth world country. It was two and half donkeys long with tumble weeds and you could just imagine the calvary coming around the corner. They now have stop lights, curbs and shoulder to shoulder housing. Its good for the locals, but not nearly as exotic a local as I remember.

Peter -- Mudrak, "Radio Dave", myself and a couple of others did this route about 3 years ago. It's a lot of off highway driving, nothing overly technical, but certainly a fun trip. You should also check dark canyon and beef basin.

One of the other trips on that link is Canyon de Chelly. We did that one, and you could spend a week in there. It's well worth it, and with enough notice, you should be able to find a guide that would be willing to do an over nighter.

Dave Scardina has all of the info from our trip. There's a video that Dave put together, it's about 6 mins, and had been up on TLCA's site for a while:

Untitled Document

there are a bunch of photos of that trip on my picasa page:
