Got a 2002 2WD 4runner.

My son was driving it and it started beeping if you went around a corner at 35+MPH. Once in a while the ABS would grab.

I haven't been able to figure out what the problem is and it has been sitting, driven little. Now if I get in it and drive it above 35MPH, the traction control will beep at the slightest curve. If I bring the steering wheel back to top dead center, the beeping stops.

I am stumped.

Sounds like a problem with input from a wheel speed sensor. I assume that the ABS light is not on... so you can rule out a broken wire. First guess is that it *might* be metal debris on the magnetic tip of one of the sensors.

Mark...

i would start by pulling the abs sensors to check for any metal on the sensor tip as mentioned above. you could also have an issue with the abs ring on the rear axle or in your front hubs. issue in the rear axle is very unlikely as i would expect there to be other issues as well. more likely it would be in the front hubs, usually its rust that damaged the ring. if you have access to a scan tool i would drive it watching the abs sensor signal and look for any abnormalities while driving straight and also while turning

Check Engine, Trac off and VSC Trac are the only lights on the dash. The ABS light is not on.

if theres damage to the abs ring its unlikely that you would have the abs light on as the computer interprets the abnormal input signal as wheel slip. if theres debris on the sensor tip then you should have the abs light on

@cvan1971man - On other Toyotas, this has been casually linked to a worn out wheel bearing with excessive runout. At least check that. 3rd gen front wheel bearings are giant-sized and rarely fail, so don't be in a hurry to replace it. Check all the other obvious things first (tone ring, sensors, wiring, etc.)
