I had a flashing 4LO, check engine light and TRAC OFF displayed on my 2014 LC on Friday. Went by the dealership for a diag and they pulled code P2610 Internal Engine Off Timing Performance.

I was told that there was a TSB on it and that an ECU flash would resolve the issue. They charged me for it (which I’m a little miffed over), stating that it wasn’t covered.

The code seems to be resolved so far but has anyone else seen this issue?

Based on a quick search, it appears some people were able to clear the code with a new gas cap, cleaning off MAF sensor or resetting the computer. Others have had the light go away on its own. In these few instances I would guess bad gas/fluke evap system issue that works itself out when the computer clears. Then there is always worse case which could mean evap canister, knock sensor, some random wire could be disconnected or damaged.

Any additional info could help diagnose but start with easy and cheap. Clear computer, fresh tank of gas, order a new cap if its an older model year... Or just wait and see if it clears next few times you turn it over.

Code P2610 has nothing to do with evap, MAF or intake. I realize the dash lights are the same but that seems to be where the similarity ends.

"OBD II fault code P2610 is a generic code that is defined as “Engine control module (ECM) – internal engine off timerperformance”, and is set when the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) "

OBD II = Evap

That’s nonsense. OBD II is a diagnostic standard. Evap relates to emissions control and is only part of the diagnostics menu covered by OBD II.

Not trying to be a jerk and I appreciate you trying to be helpful but your responses aren't helpful

I was pointing out the cheap side of the issue which was check the Evap like the others mentioned. If its not Evap, then your vehicle computer is not functioning properly and/or may need to be replaced.

To go back to your original question, it doesn't appear that there is anything readily available on a computer malfunctioning on a 200 or that it is a common complaint.

Yes please post TSB number and any details so we can ask about it with local service if this comes up.

Also how much time did they book you for the flash?

That’s a good sign.png

The tech didn’t note the TSB, unfortunately but here are the notes. It’s possible, maybe even likely that the ECU flash will resolve the issue. The reason I asked if anyone had seen this particular code and issue is because I’m leaving for a fairly lengthy trip Wednesday morning and would hate for the issue to come up again while on the road. Especially during what looks like may run through some pretty nasty weather.

It looks like TSB 336-17 fixes this. And, if the vehicle has less than 80K miles, it‘s covered under the emissions equipment warranty.

I can see why you were being an a******. You shelled out money and didn’t even ask why they were doing what they did.

@Sandroad - do you pay for a subscription for access to the TSB or are you aware of a free avenue? Can you please provide a link or post the pdf so we can read what this is all about. I’m genuinely curious what it says.

Thanks for the info @Sandroad - that’s what i was looking for. Makes me feel a little better about hitting the road tomorrow.

You can find TSBs for Toyota here. And the specific one for this issue is here.

@ElJayBird - as @Sandroad notes, the TSB states it's under warranty for 8 years or 80K miles. If you are in that ballpark, time to ask for a refund. If over...sorry, they got you.

I just got the TRAC OFF, 4Lo, check engine light.
My rig is a 2013. What years for the TSB?
Going to my mechanic in the am to find the code.
Will advise.
I do have a 12.5 aux fuel tank. Been getting fuel in the inner city of LA. I reset last week and it’s back.
Found the year with the issue. Not 2013.

@SQRRRL I just got the same thing on 2013; did you find the root cause of your issue? I use a readout tool and cleared the code to see if it comes back.

I have been reading about something similar 2010 LX, read the Lexus maintenance records of a prospective buy. It says 4LO was flashing and there were the two codes P0441, P0456 INCORRECT PURGE FLOW AND SMALL LEAK DETECTED IN EVAP. Car was brought into dealership 4 times with the same problem, they ran smoke tests leak tests, gas cap replacement but couldn't clear it. Car was traded in by owner as a result. Next records indicate more work was done in the order 1. Crankshaft position sensor was replaced (which is strange since it is a P0335) 2. Charcoal cannister replaced and 3. Battery replaced Don't see a purge solenoid replacement. Any insights as to what could be happening here. Do you think the unit associated with EVAP is damaged? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I did some testing and resetting on my code and figured out that whenever I try to use my remote start (which doesn't work) it'll trigger the engine code. No idea why but since I stopped trying to use it the light never came back.
