4LO + VSC off + engine light. Any help on the diagnostic codes ? (1 Viewer)

Hello IH8Mud members,

My 2012 LC200 is alternatively displaying the 4LO / VSC off / engine light on the dashboard.

The first time those lights displayed as soon as i started the car from a cold state. Then i left the car off for the night and the next day the warnings had disappeared.

The next time those lights came up while the car was running and after a thousand km (1600 miles) while i was accelerating above 150 kmh (90 mph).

When the car have those lights it is suddenly running on reduced power.

I have googled those warnings i saw that those lights can be caused by a lot of factors so i bought a ODBII scanning device (blue driver) to have some more informations.

Here are attached the screenshot from the app.

Does anyone have any idea, given those informations, about what is going on ? Maybe an expert can see something that i can't 🤞

I must say i am pretty anxious about the "injector on cylinder 5" message as changing an injector seem like a painfull (= costly) operation.

Recently, I did the valley leak repair to mine. Forgot to hook up the MAF sensor connector, and it flashed every light in the dash, just like yours. I plugged it up, cleared the codes, and boom, back to normal.

I am new the Yotas, but that was my expereice that relates to your question.
 
Update : Now codes are gone.

The other thing i did before having those issues : I cleaned my air filter.

So as a first step, without running the car, i verified the airbox and the filter : The front right corner lock of the airbox was not secured so the airbox was not 100% sealed.

I fixed the problem, cleared the codes and rescanned : 0 code.

Can this "airbox" sealing be the cause ?

Feel so silly if it is.

Again, new to Toyotas, but not new to automotive work.

When you say "clean" you air filter, what do you mean? Do you have a K&N oil type filter?
 
I just opened the airbox, and cleaned the dust on the existing filter, then reinstalled it. Not its 100% OEM Toyota parts.
Ok. In the future, I would not recommend blowing out the filter, best to just leave it alone of change it. High pressure air can damage the filter. I was going to note the over oiling of a K&N filter, effecting the MAF.

This could absolutely cause that combination of dash flashing. Always replace filter with OEM part (sang the MUD chorus). If codes return, your MAF may have acquired particulate matter that farks up its readings and now sends too much/not enough air into the engine. Look up Stoichiometry if interested. Running 'in stoich' is virtuous.
