On Saturday afternoon I was driving on I-10 just outside of Tucson coming back from Hatch with a load of green chile. My Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) started alarming and said my driver's side front tire was down to 20 PSI and by the time I got it pulled over it was reading 4.8 PSI. Ten minutes before the tire was the same pressure as the other three as I look at the TPMS unit about every five to ten minutes while driving, so I know the tire was fine until it wasn't.
I saw the tread had started to separate on the tire, but since I was about a hundred feet from an off ramp I thought I might make it to the ramp. Tire went completely flat in about 20 feet so I had to change it on the side of I-10 on a very busy section.
Had this tire gone flat while I was driving 75 MPH it could have been disastrous!
I'm thinking that getting chile from Hatch is the worst thing I can do for my tires. All three of my TPMS event involved going to Hatch or coming back from Hatch. 11 years ago I had a tread separation at almost the same spot on I-10, and four years ago I had a sidewall crack while heading out from my house to go to Hatch.
Fresh roasted chile is worth it though - I suppose
Time for a set of the newfangled

TPMS Saved My Life (second time!!!)
I was heading out to go camping this morning and before I went 1/2 mile my tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) started alarming. It said my front driver tire was done to 21 pounds pressure. I stopped and looked at it and it looked ok to me - until I heard air hissing and saw a two inch...
