E,

The steel sleeve dropping in an AL block is quite common in the LRs. I built a 4.6 before selling the whole LR shoot and match and saw the problem up close. What LR does your wife drive BTW?

Ali,
All I know is I bought it new in 2000, its white and its a discovery series II with every waste of an option at that time. I had the timing chain gasket replaced and the problem maraculously went away.
I am happy to say that it will soon be replaced with a cruiser and will then make a trek on Troys' Trail as hopefully the first discovery to make its way though most of the trail before rolling it and hopefully breaking every window and bashing each and ever body panel. The before and after shots will be something Land Rover might want to publish. I might even get the thing detailed before Troy and I go off on our adventure!!!!

Needless to say, I don't like it and have visions of it's last ride daily! I will surely let you know when and if it happens. You can have it when we are done!

LOL, that was worth a chuckle. Needless to say, I've washed my hands of LRs. Good luck with yours! Hope you got the extended warranty :D
