Suddenly the idea of owning a second 70 Series Land Cruiser makes sense...

Yes, I do. No other car for me.

Land Cruisers are becoming a disappearing breed in my neck of the woods. 70 Series came in fewer numbers than other series did, and are disappearing as well. Finding one in good shape is hard.

Hence the idea of getting another Cruiser, namely a 70 Series, just in case.

Toyota Australia left a comment on their intstagram page asking how can they make the LC family better.

I left a comment saying: A V8 turbo diesel for the 70 series, with coiled rear suspension for the Middle East market please

I just hope they don't turn it into an eunuch like Land Rover seems set to do with the Defender.

If they asked me what to do with the next 70 series I'd suggest the following:

1) give a coil spring rear option for the non-truck versions
2) make ABS and VSC standard on all versions (but disabled when you go into 4lo)
3) keep front and rear solid axels
4) find a way to reduce the wind noise
5) make dual-fuel tanks standard
6) give it a 6-speed transmission with cruise control
7) add rear-air conditioning for the troopy and 76
8) make it less difficult to find with factory lockers

While I admit those "cup holders" are very nice and would be an asset to any Land Cruiser, I am not sure I could live on 10% of my current assets after my wife discovered the new addition. :D

The other thing I find interesting and surprising about those articles is that supposedly the Middle East is the biggest market for the 70 series. Why then do we not get the v8 turbo diesel?! That seems to only be available in left hand drive.

Because you guys have a lot of cheap petrol!!

;)

No u could get the petrol with abs n locking difs but the fishermen which use it in Oman and has been the back bone for the fishing industry hear for years complained after last years model was released with abs they used to get countless problems with the abs system .
Now don't forget these guys use there 70 to push boats in to the sea pull nets out of the sea hall there catch to market so u can imagine the electrics wouldn't like the salt so as of 2013 the discontinued the abs .

I am pretty sure you can walk into the dealer and special order a petrol with diff locks, and all the other goodies. I know because I just did that for my diesel double cab, which I wanted in a colour they didnt stock, and while at it, I added the rest of the items (RR + FF diff locks, and a snorkel)

As for the V8 diesel, initially I thought they dont import them here because its to do with the poor diesel quality we have in KSA, but then there are diesel twin turbo V8's on the 200's here, so that doesnt make any sense.

Hey, if South Africa finally got the V8 70, then maybe we're next.

We can only dream.

Jimy2, mine is a 2013 from Oman and it has ABS, but it's a diesel (4.5L i6).

Boozewz, when I was ordering mine I kept getting promises that they could get me the petrol with the options I wanted but when it came time to actually order, each time they prepared the final quote it was missing one of my "must haves" like lockers, air bags, or ABS.

I really wish there was a way to have a truck as an expat in Saudi, I'd buy one of the 4door trucks.

I also have a 200 series with the twin turbo diesel and haven't had any problem with the Saudi fuel quality yet (only have 5000kms on it though). One of my friends has two of them and on one he has had the fuel light come on a couple of times, but it was fixed by just draining water from the filter. So I guess you do need to be careful.

I haven't been able to do any long trips on it lately, just some day/weekend trips. I have a 5 day RAK trip planned in January again so I'm looking forward to that.

I really like the 76, and the UZJ, but it certainly makes dunes a bit more challenging being so under powered. I have to really plan my approach and watch my momentum. The turbo will be much needed, even for long highway drives it really needs the turbo. If I have any incline at all it's very difficult to maintain 120kph. Maybe next month I'll order the turbo instead of waiting until I am out of warranty (my original plan). I'm also planning on adding a second battery, Icom radio, a real roof rack, new tires, and on-board air next month though, so the turbo may need to wait a bit longer.

I hope you guys aren't getting too much flooding on the West Coast?
