I wish Toyota would create an affordable, old school style, boxy, solid front axle, SPARTAN, go-anywhere suv, with a diesel option, of course. The FJ Cruiser is NOT it.

it's not half bad. no cheesy plastics moldings or flares, slab sided. it's got potential. i agree though, too hi-tech.

Remove the running boards and ignore the bloated lights and you may have something to marvel at.

The pricing is in line with the 5.7 engine. The tundra tops out at 50 something. So, the LC would have to cost more than the Tundra.

Still. very expensive and in Lexus territory.

Jump in price yes...lexus lx rumored to be around 70 to 75k starting...that's approaching RR and Cayenne territory!

This new LC sounds like a techno nighmare waiting to happen. Thank god they test a lot of the stuff in the Lexus LX before making there debut in the LC, but it sure as hell makes me nervous knowing Murphy's law is in full effect with so many things that COULD GO WRONG WILL GO WRONG no matter how reliable the vehicle.

I'm staying out of the fight on this one until Toyota manages to refresh the vehicle and correct some of the techno crap they threw in there. Btw, what's up w/ no HID and non-removable 3rd row seats!

Ummm, you do realize the LX is based on the Land Cruiser, not the other way around, right? What exactly is going to go wrong with the "techno nightmare"? The Technological advances in the 100 series do just fine, ie. traction control, AHC suspension, etc. No real problems to speak of in that regard, same with the FJC. You will not see Toyota regressing in their technological advancements just because some people are nervous and uncomfortable about perceived reliability issues, that have not proven to be a problem.

Yes, I'm very aware that the LX is based on the LC platform. However, to differentiate the brands somewhat, it appears that Toyota has decided to try the latest and greatest gadgets on the Lexus line first. Case in point, GX470 was the first to use the KDSS system. Umm, before you get your panties in a wad, this wasn't a slam on the company but more of an reality check...the more complicated you make it, the chances of things breaking become higher.

Can you really use FJC in the same sentence as the LC & LX?!? :grinpimp:

Probably used on the Toyota Prado first, but I'm not positive about that. Most of the stuff on the LX is available on the LC in other parts of the world, at least in the past.

Maybe in some cases, though overall, the more complicated vehicles of today are less likely to leave you stranded on the side of the road, than older, less technologically advanced vehicles.

 Sacrilege, I know, but I was referring to technological advancements like A-trac, VSC, EBFD, etc...

Not the case. Toyota reserves some added features to the LX in order to justify price.

The KDSS was invented during the 10-year run of the LC's AND LX's current design. The GX simply got it because it was a new vehicle (and again, the 4Runner doesn't get it which aids in price/feature justification of the LX line).

They're not going to redesign a 2003 LC so they can fit in KDSS.

At some point we just need to learn not to even try to explain our opinions to him. It is pointless. Unless you are expressing how land Cruisers are God's give to the automotive world, his mind is already made up, no matter what facts you bring to the table !!
