One of these days I'll have my own...
Pretty sweet, Boss's truck and the company trailer, heading up to Elk camp manana..

Dodge or not, free truck to use is the best, Right?

Wish I had a Powerstroke to run a balanced test with..;)

Pics of the trip will be in the near future, meat or no meat..

So what unit you headed to? I have a friend hunting in 6A around the Mormon Lake area. He is going up for the whole season. Weather should be nice the first couple of days. Personally I still like to flat tow if I'm going off road. For a tow vehicle I would like a newer Sequioa with the 5.7. It would serve my needs better than a diesel truck. My 100 series tows the car hauler okay but for hills a little more power would be nice.

Good luck on your hunt

Believe it's 2A, Springerville to St. Johns-East to the NM border. 25 permits, any elk..

Pretty much pronghorn country, but saw a large group of bachelor bulls while scouting in July.

WTF can't you drive your own truck

My thoughts too, I think John is getting soft.

:D

If he had one of these he probably could have. You need something to bring that big boy home in. I once hauled a small four point back to camp in my empty cruiser and it was a very tight fit. Beside the tight fit had to pull the inside apart to get it all cleaned up.

Yep, no room for all the camping gear and a spare seat for a potential 800 pound animal.
Oh, and my truck doesn't do 75 mph under it's own power.:D

Well, no elk, like looking for the proverbial needle. I now know every dirt 2 track in unit 2B. Lot's of great scenery, good food, laughs, and cold beer.

Here are just a few pics:

Funny thing is (well not all that funny), we did have a 6x6 bull run across the road in front of us. We were making a beer and ice run into Springerville and didn't want to leave a gun in the open 40.

Isnt that how it goes, once the rifles are stowed securely away, the Elk run across the road. Thats happened to me several times.

Looks like you had a nice time even without bagging an Elk.

That area looks more like Antelope habitat to me. See any?

One doe, and the inside of one left from a muzzleloader hunter who's season overlapped. Lot's of dumb ones standing on the side of the road in unit 1 on the way home today, getting pitures taken by tourists in mini vans.:D

Yep, fun trip, must be the hunter/gatherer thing, came home with the back of the 40 stuffed with pinion pine, and half the bed of the Dodge with juniper. Podunk is gonna smell good at Christmas time. Simple scores are fun also.

I am hoping to do some serious elk scouting on my Oct turkey hunt in 22N for my bull elk hunt in early Dec.

Not sure on the unit but I saw lots of turkey on the my SanFransico river run (FR212) years ago. Damn things keep me up all night scared fluttering in the trees
