I guess it's too late, but just an FYI.... I got exactly 10 MPG in the Tundra towing the 4Runner up to Rausch Creek and back this past weekend. Not great, but I'm not easy on the throttle and there are some semi-steep hills on the route up 29 and 81. The Tundra had no problem maintaining 70+ mph, no matter the terrain. I did stop and weighed the whole rig and I was at 13,620 pounds for Tundra, trailer, 4Runner, camping gear, tools, spare parts, etc. Looks like I can probably take down my weighted tags a notch or 2 from the 17k pounds I registered for.
10 ain't bad for a gasser! I was getting that going to URE and back in my 1500 - no hills and using a lot of passing gear. Hope you had a fun time wheelin' and looking forward to some pictures Allen.
It was a great time! We did get rained on on Friday, but Saturday was nice. No carnage to report from my end, which is nice for a change! The 4Runner did awesome. We mostly hit black trails, some blues. Unfortunately, I only took like 2 pictures. I was in a small group (only 4 trucks), and we kept moving for the most part, so there wasn't much time to get out and snap pics. Here are a couple pics that other folks took in their groups:
Technically no...BUT...my grandfather has a 07 F150 Extended Cab 5.4L Triton V8 that has only 5300 miles (4500 of those I put on the truck) that he said I could use whenever I want. He isn't physically able to drive it but likes having a truck in the front yard just in case he wants to leave .
So I figured based on how much I would actually be towing and the amount of miles I drive for work, then I'd be better off just borrowing his whenever I need it. They only live 2 hours away.
If I had ended up getting a truck it would have been a Tundra. The diesels were nice but seemed overpriced for what I wanted to tow.
I can't leave sh!t alone so I decided to list the Audi for sale Tuesday night (as more of a feeler) and it sold Wednedsay afternoon...for surprisingly more than what I have in it. First time that ever worked out for me .
Guess the 80 will start to see some daily driving for the time being...but I got my eye on something else .
If anyone has any highway tires and rims that would fit the 80 laying around...I'd be down to rent them for a couple of weeks .
Holy cow on that video. Spendy with those tires I bet. Got a little close to that plywood and I sure as hell wouldn't want to be riding that gyro. YIKEs.
As to what he is going to get...of course he is giong to get a BIG DIESEL TRUCK. I say get a Toyota Tundra and swap a diesel in it.
