I have an EU style tow hitch on my 100 at the moment and the 33" BFG AT KO2 spare just about fits in the space between the hitch and panhard rod. I'd like to change the hitch to a US style receiver hitch but having found what I'm after on ebay and comparing how they fit I can't be sure it doesn't make that space just a bit too tight for a 33" spare.

Here's a picture of the type of hitch I'm looking at and apologies to the owner of the picture it's one I saved in the past but don't know who's it is to credit them:

Has anyone fit a 33" spare under there with this specific type of hitch? Thanks.

My 275/70R18 (33x11) fits with my receiver hitch fine. It is certainly snug, but it does fit. I just pushed it toward the front with my foot as I winched it up. Worst case you could air it down some if you keep a pump/compressor with you.

Thanks Simplespirit, but do you have the same type of hitch? Looks like some of them leave more space than others so it's the type pictured above I'm trying to check.

I like the Curt design for 1 reason- the receiver is welded into the tube compared to under it. I've got the Oem hitch and the receiver sticks 2" below the hitch frame which reduces departure clearance.

that is one of my reasons for choosing that design, to gain a little clearance without losing the hitch altogether. I think the OEM hitch has a higher rating though, 7200 lbs OEM vs 6000 lbs for the curt I think.

Just did this mod tonight to fit my Wildpeak 275/70/R18 (32.6" x 10.8") tight under the truck. Used a 1/2" galvanized nipple cut up as a spacer. Fits right up against the hitch in the rear and clears the panhard rod by 1-1.25", and clear the exhaust by many inches. Don't mind the wax I forgot to wipe off the tire.

Life hack, 1/4" hex adapter in driver/drill to hoist he spare up faster.

Edit: added link to spare tire mod, I forgot to originally put in.
