Hey, anyone know a good place to get some touch up paint mixed up? I bought a paint stick from automotivetouchup.com, using the 854 - Sky Blue paint code, and guess what? That's not it. Rather than try another mail order place, I thought I'd just find a local place that could formulate some. A body shop I've worked with here mentioned $100, and I asked how many gallons I got for that price! :hmm:

Anyone heard from Sean Raller lately? He does touch up work..or did..

if my paiter was here this morning i could get you a name and number of a place that will shoot the cruiser with a scan/lazor gun and tell you what color you need to get.
i know Mark mellonhead knows were the shop is cause Jack sent him to there to match the stangs paint before he painted it for him.
if i rememeber to ask Jack when he shows up to day i will repost the info. or maybe Mark will pipe up?

Thx, Edwin, I appreciate it. I can take the fuel filler door anywhere as well, for that scan. I haven't gotten my brake situation fixed yet, and with the ten day forecast making Satan say, "whew! that's HOT!", I don't think that's going to change anytime soon.

Tasco Auto Color

They have a hand held scanner they can walk out to your car, then mix you up any size paint can you want. I think it cost me $16 for a pint of paint for the mustang project. Now that was a can of base coat. But if you take a baby jar, mix a little base coat and clear coat - then mix - you have a nice touch up paint you can use on a small brush.

Be sure to ask for the print out of the paint recipe... for your files. ;)

Good Luck.

I stopped in at Tasco last week, and they were unable to come up with a match. What they approximated was more turquoise than what I have, and on the scale of match, which runs from 0 - 25, with 0 being a perfect match, mine was a 19. That's kinda like saying my wife is Halle Berry! :p

I'm probably just going to contact the guy that did the restore, and see if he did anything special when he had it painted.

Solved my "what color is my 40?" issue. It's not 854, Sky Blue. Are you ready?

There is a trucking company in the Northwest called Gordon Trucking. They are actually in the top 25 of trucking firms in the US, so not a small place. Yesterday, I talked to the guy that did the restore on mine, and he said that when he was ready to shoot it, he wanted a color that would stand out, and always liked the color Gordon painted their trucks. So there you go... I may get ahold of Gordon, and see if they will give me the paint formula, or just try to get it matched locally, but it was nice to finally get an answer.

I talked to this guy for quite awhile, and it was nice to hear the back story of the 40. He was very glad to hear what came of it, (he sold it to the guy I bought it from in '03), and told me getting the pics in the mail made his day. The 40 has just under 5K miles on it, since he finished the frame off in 2000. He never drove it in the rain, which is the same thing the guy I bought it from said. It was raining when it got dropped off at my house, so that cherry is broken! He said it would be fine to stay in touch, and I intend to, the guy really took care in doing this rebuild, so has a lot of knowledge on it, and I think he also likes knowing it went to a good place. We all know those folks, don't we; the guys that take care of their stuff obsessively? ;)
