Ok, guys, last question for today. I need to reindex my driver side TB to get more lift. It is all the way in (19.5” center hub to fender). I’d like to raise another inch. My passenger side still has an inch of bolt adjustment left, and moves easily.

The bolt is tight, like it won’t budge with an impact tight. This truck is rust free, clean, and I’ve let it soak for quite a while with penetrating oil. I can move it with a 4’ breaker bar, of course 1/4 turn at a time.

I’ve loosened it probably 2-3 full turns, and it isn’t getting easier. The threads do not appear marred. Can I just keep cranking on it, or would I be wise to order a new adjuster and bolt before I do?

The adjuster bolt on my driver side offers significantly more resistance than on my passenger side.

Sorry if it is too obvious, but have you raised both front tires?

I think what he is implying is are the wheels in the air when you are adjusting the bars? Fwiw my driver side maxed out (could not be turned with impact wrench) much quicker than passenger.

It really is as simple as if there is no movement you have to reindex ( remove from adjuster and rotate accordingly) or new bars.

Yes, the wheels are in the air.

I know I need to reindex. I’m mostly looking for comfort that needing a 4’ breaker bar to continually loosen the adjuster is OK, and at some point it will get easier and I’ll be able to reuse it. If It is a forgone conclusion I will need new parts, I’d like to get them before I have it apart.

I always use a 2’ breaker bar with a cheater pipe over the end to adjust mine

It’s pre loaded. Takes a lot of force. Your 4’ cheater might be my 2’ breaker bar all depends on your grunt when using. Everyone’s cubical toned arms are different.

My passenger was pretty easy to move with a standard 2' breaker bar. Driver required a bit of grunt, but moved well enough with what I am guessing was 140ish ft-lbs. I did smear the bolt with some antisieze before adjusting.

It was too tight...

It took about 6 full turns before it would loosen with an impact. Then I saw the threads that had been inside the adjuster were majorly boogered up. I got it apart, and half the threads in the adjuster were also bad.

I reindexed the bar (all that for only 2 or 3 teeth). I tried to put it back together, hoping it would hold for a few days, but no luck. When it got enough tension on it, the remaining threads stripped out (kind of exciting when it let go).

So, we’ll see if one of the local dealers happens to have a bolt and adjuster, and which leg they want for it. Otherwise I’m dead in the water until I can get them.

You’re definitely not the first to have this happen... If your local dealer has trouble getting the parts (or scalps your wallet), I think Cruiser Outfitters keeps them in stock. Partsouq can also get them to you within a few days from UAE.

Partsouq it is. Half the price and faster than the local guys and anyone else I could find.

Of course, as long as I was paying for shipping, there were some more goodies that got into the shopping cart. 😉

Partsour is awesome and you might as well add in extra's like oil drain gaskets, spares, etc. I don't pick DHL for shipping because their facility is like an hour from my house, if I miss the delivery, I ain't driving that far for it, so I use UPS or Fedex, whichever is cheaper. My local dealer has gotten me any part i've ever needed the next day if I ordered it before a certain time in the morning.

If got used parts. From a parts rig.
