Hope eveyone's ok,, Looks pretty nasty in T-town and Birmingham on the news.

Ok here south of downtown - thanks for checking.

my office building north of town is apparently destroyed though. I am just waiting out the last of the weather to head up and secure the servers, which are miraculously still running on generator power.

Everyone else OK?

Friend in Athens without power, said they are rationing gas at stations with power near by. Mom lives in Rogersville and without power.

counting ourselves lucky. especially after seeing the aerial footage from tuscaloosa. lots of trees, power lines and power poles down and a busted water main on the street. but no injuries.

I am heading up today to work with the Red Cross. If I don't feel like I'm being utilized well though I might head out on my own and find someone else to work for. Brining my small chainsaw and a gallon of gas. I know it won't get me far but it might help a little.

Here are some pics of the damage to our office. We couldn't get in until late morning because the sheriff's dept. had the Highway closed for downed power lines.

Back of Building. I took this photo from the spot in the parking lot where the dumpster used to sit. The hole in the bricks is where the dumpster hit the building:

Tuscaloosa is pretty horrific.
I left the University today and there was still no power and the water is not safe to drink.
All of 15th street from McFarland to up until Hackberry is basically gone and much of McFarland right before University Blvd is destroyed as well.
The news really does not capture how bad Tuscaloosa was hit.
Luckily my friends and loved ones have only lost possessions and not their lives.
Please keep these families and cities in your prayers.

Well, fellow mud-ers. I have to be capt. Bringdown and share the news from Henegar AL, on co.rd. 730 & 739 I lost my Dad and Grandmother in the tornado. (I would like to believe they didn't know what hit them and that it was Quick, but we won't know till we meet again some day.) There as well an aunt that was hospitalized for injuries from the tornado's destructive force. also some aunts and unckles and cousins were all bumped and bruised but fine. Though in counting my blessings I still have a huge family there that is largely elderly and/or somewhat disabled so I am heading to the Portland, OR. air port @ 600am to catch a flight to Chattanooga, TN. to attend the services then help where I can to clean up and secure the different properties. maybe just be there for my family.
If you would like to offer a prayer for the Ott Family it would be greatly appreciated, if you don't pray but wish us well that will be just fine too.
Thank you in advance for any kind thoughts and wishes,
Adam Ott.

P.S. If you are nearby but mostly "un-touched" we could use the help for an hour or two.

Prayers are being said for your family.

I have a crew of 8 guys that are currently cutting trees in T-town; but I have more guys looking for opportunities to help. Let me know what you need and hopefully we can help. Either PM me, call me 2 0 5 - 9 6 6 - 9 4 4 4, or post back here.

Sorry to hear that Adam. I can't beleive more people were harmed. I worked this weekend in Pleasant Grove and they found a couple alive while I was working cleaning up some properties just down the street. I really wish I could have stayed longer as they really needed a lot of help and still alot more. It will be months to years to get back to Normal and then again it will never be the same in many areas. The bigger organizations are out of touch with reality and sadly they let me down. I did a lot for the Red Cross but went out with some freinds on our own and luckily were let in to help. They were turning most cars away at check points. We had lots of water and chain saws and they could tell we were willing to work so I think the local law enforcement had enough wits about them to let us in.

I have many more thoughts on this but just want to say that the Alabamians are a very resiliant people and they will be just fine if not stronger.

Adam, I'm so sorry to hear about your loved ones. Prayers coming friend.

Sorry to see your building the way it is Matt. Was anyone in there and injured?

Eric and Jason, huge respect for the work you are doing or allowing your men to go do.

family is ok...

it will be years before Tuscaloosa is back to "normal" our little town was beyond its limits as far as the ratio of people to utilities/food access/basic infrastructure

but we are working on it now, hopefully once everyone is found progress will speed up.

does anyone know who owned the blue 40 off hardgrove near west coast customs?
I never saw it move from under its carport, it has been green the last several months because of the pollen. I have never seen another vehicle in the driveway. it had a large pine fall on it, looks like a total loss. :-(

if anyone needs anything please let me know. If I cant help you I will help find help.

I'm ok, my stuff is ok, Step-mom's house will need a new roof and a new window, trees down in the yard. But given the dameage elsewhere in town we have been very lucky. power just came on 4 days ago, still don't have my DSL line and many are without phone lines too. Old section of downtown behind the courthouse took a major hit and the area on 278 east is pretty bad. So I'm lucky. Gas was hard to come by for a few days along with any other items. Many other places a lot worse than ours, but it was certainly a crazy time. My little honda generator performed well....I reccomend it if you are looking for one. I'm onlive via a cell card as ATT can't tell me when my DSL line will be back up.

Elbert,

I'm glad everything is ok in your neck of the woods. My mother was driving north on 65 during the storm and she had to run into the Day's Inn till the storm passed.

Which Honda generator do you have? Were you able to run your fridge?

I have one of the small ones... 2000i , yes it will run the refrigerator and a few other things. 2000 Watts. It will power the refregirator and a few other minor loads like the TV and sat box for well over 12 hours on one tank of gas using the variable throttle feature. Its the one that's safe to connect computer equipment to. I bought it a year or so ago for portable power and as a backup for my cpap in case of power failure. I like it and its portable and quite.

On full throttle I had it running my washing machine, the refrigerator, a fan, the tv and satillite box. If you have some heavy electrical loads to power you would probally need something bigger, but for minor stuff its a great little device.
