Anybody that has read this thread or any of the others need to remember chicks dig them. :p
...

That maybe true? :meh: I'm married and too old to care about impressing "chicks", the girls that I'm around think they are silly, stupid, redneck.

After much research i was advised to fit a snorkel for a trip to iceland in the next couple of years, i really dont want to fit it. Even though its a full oem set up...

You shouldn't. I'll PM you my address. Just send it to me and I'll take care of it for you. You're welcome!

The mind is a wonderful thing. Think you're a chicken, keep telling yourself that, one day you just might wake up a chicken. Power of thought. If you've convinced yourself you absolutely need a snorkel, you'll go to great lengths to justify it to yourself and anyone that opposes one. All I know is I spent half my life playing in the desert riding motorcycles, prerunners, quads, beating the s*** out of anything with a motor. None of them had a snorkel and I'm still alive.

What about the benefits of cooler air? My Cruiser loves cold winter air. It feels like a completely different vehicle with the intake air temp below 40°F

The rule of thumb is about 1 percent change in power for every 10 degrees of air temp change.:meh:

I'm not saying you don't. My personal observation is I see or feel no difference wether it's -40 or 110 degrees. That's me though.

I'm also at about 4000 feet of elevation in a valley, so its uphill north, south, and west . I'll take any help I can get

If you're crawling in the desert, its hot, never getting over 5mph, there should be a noticeable benefit. Most of us don't crawl. 99% of us don't need them or they come from the factory with one.

At speed, the ones that I'm around compare at about 10F difference, wouldn't, doesn't make a noticeable difference. Better to go with an active type device, inter-cooling or water/meth injection will make a much bigger difference, easy significantly below ambient temp. For a N/A motor, most agree, not worth the effort.

When crawling, say 5mph, who cares what the potential hp is? Under those conditions, are only using a fraction of the available power, if you want more, push the pedal harder.

Ok, so my video example kind of stinks but you can get the idea of my thinking. When I go to Michigan's Upper Peninsula there is a lot of travel at around 40-50 mph and it is sandy and dusty. If there are a couple of trucks (just me in this clip) it gets really dusty running second and I believe the snorkel has got to help a bit by keeping the intake high. Not to say I don't like the look of it because I do. It does help fulfill my preference of having mods on a vehicle because they have a purpose. It was way more dusty just before this but we missed the shot.

I'd like to see a vehicle equipped with a snorkel in a wind tunnel. Seems like all the dust would be directed straight up to the snorkel.

This screen shot was taken last May. 163 is pretty hot. Can't help but think cooler air is going to make a difference

The old it's not oem it's not good. At this point the youngest is 20yrs old in america and we have every right to get it up how ever we can.

I'm thinking about cutting a hole in my driver side fender, and sticking something in it to match my passenger side snorkel. Symmetry, and all.

My resale value is going straight in the gutter. :censor::eek:

Oh, the humanity!!

This thread makes me chuckle... :D

Snorkels make me cringe.

There, I said it. I understand their uses and (some) people can justify them but the overwhelming majority use them for cosmetic purposes. They look so try-hard to me I cant shake it.

There is a hoard of mis-information in this thread. Snorkels are for water crossings. They may help for dust as well but their primary purpose is to raise the level of your air intake for creek crossings. I do cross creeks where the water is high enough to choke my truck out because it happened on more than one occasion before I put a snorkel on it. These creeks are on my deer lease so in wet years I get plenty of practice and having the snorkel makes a big difference. On some of these creeks the entry into the creek is extremely steep and very muddy when it has been raining. You don't get the choice of controlling your entry. You are going in pretty fast whether you like it or not which is why having your air intake in your fender isn't such a great idea.

It is prudent to take additional measures if crossing high water is going to be a semi-regular activity and there are several threads on Mud providing excellent advice on making your rig more water-worthy. With that said, raising your air intake is simply common sense. I am over 60, have been married for 40 years and not only don't care what hot young chicks think of my rig, I don't care much what anyone else thinks of my rig. I built it up to get me places I couldn't reach without placing my rig and me at risk. The snorkel was simply another smart choice as was lockers. To each his own but not improving the off-road worthiness of your rig because you think it looks bad makes me think you aren't very clear in your mind that you are driving a 20 year old (at least) vehicle because of its legendary off-road capability...not because it is pretty and attracts chicks.

Truthfully, I love mine, BUT my wife absolutely hates it. With that said, I'm open to swapping fenders with anyone with a black LX or LC. Let me know if you're interested.
