LOL

A tcase works like a transmission of sorts. It has a selection of gear ratios to choose from. Low range just has a lower gear ratio than high range.

Agreed! The choice of major is what has me chuckling.

I will definentaly need to use L4 more often, Up until now I really have only used H4. The truck has done everything ive challenged it to, superbly but i guess when you offroad on power line easement trails, thats to be expected.

What'd I tell ya!

Hey ww1221us! I am also an 18yr old college student, and I have also done stupid things while offroading.
I learned to drive and how to do basic "wheeling" with an 89 isuzu trooper that I had. I used to be very stupid when I went offroading. I have gotten stuck twice.
The first time I got stuck was similar to what happened to you. I was with 3 friends in my trooper having fun wheeling at Playa santa(a beach). It was our first time at that beach and I didn't know the trails. Everything was ok until I made a tight turn in one of the trails, I couldn't see what was at the other side of the curve but I kept going at 15mph. When I entered the curb the left front tire dropped in to a 4'deep hole filled with mud, instantly stopping the trooper. It felt like a car crash, it was so hard and sudden that the engine turned off and one of my friends broke the windshield with his forehead(nothing happened to him.) The left front tire was almost swallowed by the mud and the right rear tire was almost 1 foot in the air. We were later extracted by a pickup. I learned a valuable lesson. Always wear your seat belt! Besides, now I am more careful when I am wheeling in places I don't know well. Oh, and I had to buy a new windshield.
The other time I got stuck was alone and with a girlfriend in Piñones(a nother beach). This time I was showing off. I got stuck because I popped not 1 but both front axels, it happened because I accidentaly ran over a log:whoops: . I didn't get far until my rear tires got dug up in the sand. This time I had to pay 250 for a 4x4 tow truck to get there and pull me out.:o
I have been very cautious of where I go wheeling with my Land cruiser. since now I am going to college I am really going to need it.

pvid, what university are you attending in PR?

My brother is in Mayaguez

... If you havent noticed Im a newbie at this stuff, and do not really know anything that i am talking about

being a NB has little to do with this... lots of the experts are in the same boat.

Hey, the other day I was off roading with my drunk friend(no names and no I was not DUI) and while I was moving he put the transfer stick from H2 to N. Now I know that it is bad to change into a different gear but do you think that this will have hurt it any? I thought that the transfer stick is spoused to be locked into gear while the car is moving. Is that not the case?

Another question...
The gaskets that attach the leaf springs to the shackles are rapidly deterierating. Do I need to replace them and can I do this myself or should I take it some where? If I need to take it somewhere, does anyone know of any good places around Birmingham, AL

Those "gaskets" are actually bushings and I would do it myself. When putting in the new ones just put some grease on them for lubrication and put them in. You may need to use putty knives in order to get the leaf spring (with new bushings installed) into the spring hanger (I'm referring to the end that does not have the shackle, the fixed end).
Learning is the best part about being a cruiser owner......well, that and wheelin your junk

So how hard is it to take the leaf springs and then reinstall them? (my springs are pretty stiff) and When I do this Ill do a writeup just for fun. Oh and should I just put the jack stands in the middle of the leaves since Ill probably just take 1 side off at a time?

Well we've been friends (the drunk) since I was in 1st grade. I have taken the path of staying sober and he has taken the path of Lets get :censor:ed-up. But yes your right, I do need some new friends.

I say leave it alone until you can purchase it from your parents. Read on here and find new friends.

If your bushings are really that bad then I would liek to see a pic, I have never seem them falling appart.
