For that money, get into the rear corners; look for rust up above the rear frame cross member in the body.
The main spar just inside the doors at the bottom, all the body mounts.
I don't know any shops in Vic.
Good luck, sure looks nice. J

I'm sure RADD would be a big help, but it involves a drive

Not a TLC, but so cheap and lots of potential. Trans might just need a good flush with some new fluid. Only 109,000km!

Almost never see these for sale in BC. KZJ78 in Vancouver. Has the more powerful and reliable 3.0 litre 1kz-te diesel (not the 2LTE). Too bad this one has no rear locker.

^^ That is the exact truck that the guys at ATEB wheel, if you want context. Good looking rig, in good shape.
And it has that cool little front fender mirror.
Just curious Nick, is that engine an improved upgrade from your engine? Is it
essentially a newer model upgrade, or just different with same sort of limitations?

Hey Jon. Actually the truck I linked above has a better engine than the ATEB guys are using; it's a whole new series called the 1KZ. It is a improved successor to the L series engines that ATEB (3L-T 2.8litre) and I have (2L-TE 2.4litre). The 1KZ is a 3.0 litre displacement, has a 12mm rotary pump, and a really well designed factory turbo, which allows the thing to be tuned for some pretty obscene power easily (need intercooler though). They also went to an aluminum head which has it's advantages/disadvantages.

Like with all IDI turbo engines, if overheated, there is a chance still of damaging the head. WAY better than the 2LTE though. This newer version has higher axle ratios also; mine are 4.9:1, this one is 4.3:1 I believe. Also the dash is updated to be smoother looking. Basically the rest of the truck is the same though.

If I didn't have so much invested in my truck, I would go take a look at that one. That said, pretty much EVERYTHING I've done to mine could transfer to that one....tempting, but I don't have the time for it and I hate that color scheme..haha. Rare truck though...they're pretty much as rare here as the heavy duty HZJ77.

Hi All,

I seem to be getting more serious with this truck. Where in Victoria would be a good place to have it inspected?

Ever look into this more? I met a guy who claims to own it with a friend. Bought it from a garage sale and then put a lot of money into it

That is where they are going in the US. Now if it is one of 300, it certainly has value. I'd like to see
it just to see what a factory original FJ40 looks like. I don't know if I've ever seen one...;)

They'e from a 1JZGTE 2.5l twin turbo straight six (from the Toyota Soarer). Not really applicable to cruiser engines (too small)...unless you could adapt both which is probably not worth the effort.

I could be open to a challenge...

The thing is the guys that own the twin turbo toyotas convert them to single turbo for a reason. Thats why these twins are often found on the market so cheap. A single setup is simpler, and the modern turbos are so good they spool just as quick (if not quicker) and provide more top end performance at the same time.

What about a 3RZ 4 cyl?
