Does anyone have a title person?

The person who gave me my 40 has disappeared on me and never gave me the title. I’ve been driving it with plates that expired in ‘92 😳.

Have inspection, insurance and my local PD ran the VIN and Plates and they’re clean and clear.

Jimmy had one who retired, I found a couple online locally, contacted one and they’re charging $950.

The process seems really convoluted, someone I spoke with who did it said they probably wouldn’t do it again due to how much of a PITA it was.

Ian,

For my '78 FJ45 bonded title, I didn't use "a guy." I:
  • made an appointment with the Travis County Sherrif Department,
  • brought it to the VIN inspection in Manor (on the Dyna),
  • got the necessary form from them,
  • took that to the DMV office on Parmer where I got a "letter of rejection" IIRC
  • took all that to Fry Auto Title
  • paid them ~$150 for a title bond
  • received plates immediately
  • was mailed a bonded title that'll convert to a standard title 3 years later
Tried the same thing with the Dyna, but I was told the DMV decided it's a "mini truck" and wouldn't allow it to be titled in Texas. For that, I might need professional help.

Thanks, you laid that out in a much more reasonable way than what I have been told and read.

Love the crotchety ladies at Fry’s, seriously, they’re hilarious.

Mini Truck? That’s just silly.

Thanks again…

Ian

I used Lawrence Auto Title out of Taylor for my motorcycle. It went smoothly and I would use again.
Thanks, do you remember the cost? If you don't mind sharing of course...

I used these guys a couple of years back for a bonded title..

My understanding is that you can go to your local tax office for a bonded title…
