New to Ih8mud. Any insight is appreciated, as I am seeing a ton of different opinions on here. Wanting to get the largest BFG KO2 on my 2006 LX with stock AHC that I can... WITHOUT STRESSING THE DRIVE-TRAIN and without cutting/hammering/beating my rig. I had almost decided on 275/65/18, but am hearing possibilities of going bigger.
I'm running 275/70/18 KO2's with no issues. I've run this size on two trucks and had no problem getting where I wanted to go. I don't know if you really need a bigger tire.

What rim size do you have? Mine are 18. If you have a 16 inch wheel you're running 32.8 tall and 11.2 inch wide. An 18 inch wheel would be 34.8 tall and 11.2 wide.

I've been documenting this recently as I prepare to buy new wheels/tires for my 06 LX. There's a ton of info that covers non AHC, but AHC adds some complexity if you want to use low mode in parking lots without worry of rubbing.
For AHC, here's what I've summarized:
On stock wheel offset and 285 and under width:
Up to 33.3" is safe with no modifications at all.
Up to 33.8" is hit or miss and may require some front fender liner trimming or re-shaping.
Factory size is 31" (275/60/18)
33.3 and under options are:
285/75/16 - 32.8
275/70/18 - 33.2"
If you're concerned about drivetrain wear stay at or below a 33" tire and you should be fine. I'm building up a capable trail rig, but with mostly highway miles in mind. I'll probably be getting 285/70/17 (32.7") or 295/70/17 (33.3") on a 25 offset 17" Alpha wheel.
It seems like I am posting this everywhere right now, but since it's a hot topic right now: previous post on a different thread.
I just went through this, I also have AHC. Mind you, I did the sensor adjustment lift which only puts me about an inch or so higher front and back. I have room to go higher but don't feel like I need to until I add sliders.
I'd say it depends on whether you have 16's vs 18's. You're forced into a wider tire with 16's to gain height if your stick with aspect ratio, which would be 315's. With 18's you can maximize height without getting too fat a tire under the wheel well.
In any case, my tires are 285/70/18. These are listed on 4WheelParts as measuring 34.1". My measurement on the ground with 36 PSI is about 33.7". Take it FWIW but they fit. No rubbing at full turn or flex.
