Couldn't find an earlier thread just for tires, so I thought it was time we had one.

I ran across an article on the new (at least new to me) Nitto Ridge Grappler. I don't know much about them, other than I like the way they look, and they seem to be a little pricey. Any words of wisdom from the expert(s) at 49 tire?

Will be interested in this response as those are the tires that Erin wants for the GX when the time comes.

I really like how those look. I've really enjoyed my Terra Grapplers on the 4Runner and 06 100.

Here's a handy dandy thread I created and an excel spreadsheet I did a few years ago for the 200 Series.

Most of it is 200 specific, but there are some good notes about the particular tires in the spreadsheet.

i like the look of the nitto, but have never been that impressed with them, especially in the wear department.

toyo open country M/T or R/T or BFG K/O 2 or K/M 2 are the cream.....

Still have the bfg mt on wagon wheels for sale. Good tread. Little dry rot. They are 33x12.50-15

And someone make me an offer on these. (5)18"x9" et12 wheels. 5 on 150

I don't have any experience with the TOYO's, but I've put several hundred thousand on various BFG products over the years and agree they are hard to beat.

I've also had good luck with the few sets of Coppers I've had.

No more Nittos after the last set. Very loud, and wore incredibly fast. Like needed to be replaced after 15,000 miles fast.

I'm around 10,000 on my Toyo RTs and they have worn very little. Very impressed with Offroad performance in Ouray too.

agree. nitto tires are known to be soft and wear fast. the toyo mt also wear fast, be cool to see how many miles you get out of your r/t....i tried to get that tire first as well, but size options are/were very limited when i was looking....

that said, i have +20K on my ko2 already.....barely showing wear.

The terra grapplers on my LR4 seem to be holding up well. Bought them used and put probably 10k on them, and they seem to have a bunch of tread left (load range E).

I've had 2 sets of KM2s over the years and they are my favorite tires asthetically and get great mileage.

Ok my 02 cents.....

Rock crawling on- Bfg red labels...
Stupid for anything else but in rocks it's like cheating!

Tow Rig 3500 Dodge-Cooper Discovery Mud tires, quiet and work great pulling trailers when wet ground.

Lexus RX350-Cooper, quiet and wearing great on wife's ride

In past I've had Bfg, nitto, ok but so far I'm very happy with Coopers and their holding up well.

I got over 90k miles on my last set of gen 1 terra grapplers on the tundra.
I've had the same experience on my 1st gen Terra Grapplers on my 100. I have about 40k on them, and they still have a LOT of tread.....would be even better if I rotated them routinely!

All that being said, I've still had the best experience with Michelin LTXs/BFG KO(X)s and KM(X)s. The best part about them to me is they stay round until they're slick.......unlike every set of Goodyears I've had that were square after about 20k (obviously, YMMV)

My tire advise just like Cam said buy what you think looks good to you. Also depending on sizing on what tire or tire manufacturer.

Drive on 5 yrs or about half tread put on Craigslist sell for $$ and call CT and buy another set.

You will always be using the best part of the tire due to siping.

Personal liking in order for LT truck:

Toyo/Nitto - A lot to do with sizing
Michelin/BFG - great tire

The rest are just not as good a lot are gaining but no matter how badass you car or truck is if you have s*** tires you have a s*** car or truck.

You get what you pay for.

By the best tire you can afford and have a good time.

Also make sure you check the air. Often.

Lou put those Tundra wheels on Craigslist.

DNP the ridge grappler is interesting they are looking to capture your lifted truck crowd that tows. They are only LT tire that is F rated. So that is a 12 ply tire.

It is a very nice looking tire.
