I know this inst hardcore but there really isn't a generalized section here on mud to ask this.

I am getting some new rubber and am at a toss up on what to get.

Either..

40"MTRS
or
37"Krawlers blue labels

on D60 and 14 bolt...

I had a set of 37" MTRs and they worked good on the road and rocks. So, I was thinking I should just get another set of them but 40s. It would be nice to have a tire with a little tougher side wall. Like the Krawlers would have, but having a 14 bolt in the rear might have me dragging my diff over a ton of rocks. I still will be driving the truck on the road to the trails about 80 miles one way and normally one big trip a year (12+ hours on the road one way)...

How well do the blue label krawlers wear?
Any input is cool...

40" MTR's,

the blue krawlers are nothin special..

Howdy! I have run the Krawlers in 13.5 x 35 for over 5 years on my Piggy, and I am happy with them. At 35 psi, they handle good on the freeway, but they are noisy. At 15 psi, they carry the Piggy pretty soft on the trail, and I have never popped a bead or trashed a sidewall, yet. They are a very soft compound, and they will not last for same mileage of the MTRs. I just replaced two of them due to wear and tear, and they are just Krawlers. What's with the "blue label" thing. Also, I thought they were available in 39s. John

Between 37" Krawlers and 40" MTR .. sure the MTR ( price issue ? )

I love the look of the Krawlers .. much more than MTR .. and have a idea ( based only on seen on videos ) that perform better in mud than the MTR ..

Why not the Krawlers on 39" .?

39" Krawlers are awesome but they are only red labels (super soft comp) and they would not last long on the road at all. Plus you have to be sponsored to get them.

40" Mtrs and 37" blue labels are close in price.

The only thing stopping me on the krawlers are the size, too small...

Ha! Mike and I both run 39" Red Labels - bit crazy, but definitely not sponsored or remotely even competitive.

You're shaving the 14 bolt right - that helps a tad.

I'd stick with the MTR's - still think they're the best mixed use tire out there for the money. Would be nice to see Maxxis come down on pricing for their 40" options. Mike has Allan H's 37" blue labels on Morgan's 80 remember - damn good looking tire, but sooo much smaller :D.

Isn't the new BFG MT the same pattern as a Krawler almost? If so, wonder if they're going to make it in a 39?

Thats true you guys have them but you guys also tow your rigs:princess::D

The KM2 already came out and have sizes all the way up to 42s , but have an insane price tag. Plus they dont really seem any better than the MTRS....

Howdy! So is there a way to tell the difference between a Red Label and a Blue Label? Is there a code on the sidewall? My 35s are definitely very soft, but red/blue was never mentioned when I bought them. John

blues are available to the public and reds are comp tires. You either have to be sponsored to get them or buy them from someone who is.

Red Labels (that I've seen) will have a stamping stating "not DOT legal for highway use" (or something like that). Sans that or something that states they're DOT approved for highway use - they're blue labels.

I could snap a pic later tonight if need be.

Al - I've not seen the KM2's in person, nor know much about whether they're better than the GY MTR's - but as you well know, I had that set of 37" MTRs (sold to Martin) and loooooved them - aired down they walked up the hardline on Gaurdrail. Got the 40's back - thanks - going to put some of that poly krap or weight in before I mount anything but the spare.

my friend has them, i'll ask where he got them, he got them a year ago, maybe things changed

try the pirate vendors

I personally would stick with interco, price-wise you can't beat em.

Where? and are they avaliable to the average joe? I have not seen them anywhere.

When I first started shopping for 40's almost two years ago, there was a news release on BFG's webpage stating that the 39" Blue Labels would be available for sale soon. Tried to get sources for venders from them - to no avail. 4-Wheel Wholesalers had an add as well - saying available soon. Everytime I called - not available yet. Then that ad disappeared and stayed at the max 37" size. Gave up - went with those used 40" MTRs and then scored the 39" Red Labels.

Here's an example of how much confusion was out there 2 years back: 39 inch BLUE label Kralwer? [Archive] - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board

I got really frustrated - hope you have better luck nowadays. Your new ride would look sik on Krawlers!

They do make 39" blues. Ive never bought any, but have seen plenty of sets. The ONLY time my Krawlers really lacked was in the nastly thick mud that is everywhere in the South. But I think that MTRs suck way worse all of the time :bang:

The Krawlers did very well on the road. And they make you look like a :grinpimp:

38" TSl radial? $330 on 15"s :hmm:
37" new KMs? $333
37' Krawler? $410
40" new KM2s? $611
41" IROK radial $389 <---- they may wear a little faster than the others, but its still cheaper than a diesel tow rig! That is what I would get.

You really need the new 42"SXs to get that rear diff from making a irrigation canal everywhere you go :flipoff2:

So where do you get the 39" blues then? Since you have seen them everywhere...

Hey dragging a diff is better than blowing polys and stock rear axles. :flipoff2:

Called 3 guys from the UA and a guy that I didnt realize had been on the UA.

Youre screwed :p unless you know one of them AND can get one of there sets AND then dont tell anybody.

My 37"s I had are gone :p

TTTTHHHhhhhhats what I thought. Thanks for looking anyway...
