I am running the Goodyear Duratrac in 285/70/17 on RW wheels.

All the charts that I have found and somewhat understand look as if 49psi is the correct pressure I should run.
I am stock, other than a Gobi roof rack.

The specs on the Duratracs are as follows -
Tire SizeLT285/70R17
Speed RatingQ
Load Index121
Load RangeD
Max Load (lbs)3195

I appreciate any advice.

You can google and find the install sheet for the RW wheels. Toyota recommends 46 psi for these wheels and 285/70R17 tires. I bought a set of new RW wheels for my 2019 200 and that’s what it said. 46psi.

RW 46psi.

Okay, my turn. Whats the recommended cold psi for BFG AT T/A KO2 LT285/70/R17 on a 17x8.5 wheel? I'm currently running 38psi cold.

And that install sheet is wrong. The correct Recommended Cold Tire INflation Pressure for LT285/70R17 tires on a LC200 is 40psi F/R.

Here is a link to the original install sheet: Original TRD 17" Install Sheet

Please note on page 5 of 12 the recommended cold tire inflation pressure is 40psi F/R.

Toyota later determined that since the TPMS sensors will not trigger a low pressure warning until the set pressure had decreased by 25%, this recommended inflation pressure could allow the tires to run at 30psi before a TPMS warning which might be interpreted as a violation of FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) which require a minimum allowable inflation pressure of 35psi for LT-Metric tires.

To avoid potential fines and possible litigation, Toyota changed the recommended cold tire inflation pressure to 46psi. Here is a link to the revised install sheet that reflects this change on page 5 of 12: Revised TRD 17" Install Sheet

This revised pressure of 46psi results in a TPMS low warning trigger pressure of 35psi which is consistent with FMVSS minimum requirement of 35psi.

Thus, 46psi is not a "correct" pressure, it is a "CYA" pressure.

Run whatever you want. Believe whatever source you want. But 40psi is the pressure that yields the performance designed into the LC200.

Recommended cold tire pressure for Falken A/T3W p285/70R17 117T (Rock Warrior wheels) on '14 LX570? Many thanks!

@gaijin I have an interesting one for you. LT 275/80r18. 129q. For a 200 series. I looked at the toyo lt chart but this isn't a toyo size.

Brand / model is Kenda Klever A/T kr28

TIA.

Very cool thread. I think I learned something. Using that Toyo tires link I cross checked my FJC's stock load rating per the 32PSI door sticker at 2425, and then checking the LT tables for my 295/75/16s I need to fill them to 40PSI to be properly inflated (2460). I think they are down at 33 at the moment....

Sorry, @grinchy - I have nothing for you; can't find that size anywhere in the published Load/Inflation charts. I purchase new Yearbooks from the TRA (Tire and Rim Association) every 3 years, so my latest is 2017 - maybe it will be in the 2020 Yearbook.

As an aside, when I hear "200 series" I take that to mean either a LC200 or LX570. The LC200 is URJ200 and the LX570 is URJ201 - both in the 200 series (200, 201). Since RCTIP's are different for a LC200 and an LX570, it is helpful to be specific about which we are talking about. No bearing on this case, however - just FYI.

That's great...appreciate the rapid response, expert explanations and walking through the calculations in previous posts. Thank you!

Well, I must congratulate you on finding a way to force me to make a pressure recommendation for something other than a LC200/LX570 - warning to others: this will not happen again.

I think you are misreading/misusing the charts. Your stock tires are P265/70R17 113S @ 32psi which equals 2425 lbs. So far so good.

For an LT-Metric tire, you must divide 2424 by 1.1 to compensate for the different construction, 2424/1.1=2204 lbs.

When we look this up in the tables, we find the Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure for the LT295/75R16 tires on your FJ Cruiser is 35psi F/R.

BTW, 35psi is the MINIMUM recommended pressure for ANY LT-Metric tire on any vehicle.

Ahha. I guess if the 1.1 thing was in the Toyo article I totally missed it. Good info!. Ill add a few lbs to them!

It's an LX 570. I'll look for another size in 129q and try that inflation.

295/70r18 nitto ridge grappler are 129q.

PDF attached on more than you will ever want to know about tire pressure

That's the outdated(2015) version of the tables published by Toyo. :flipoff2:

Here's the link for the 2017 version which I have referenced many times: 2017 Toyo Tables
