What pressure should I be running on my new BF Goodrich M/T 255/85-16's on split rims? My rig is just a daily driver, no offroading as of yet. Max is 80psi cold. I just had tire shop balance at 40lbs??
Take and air your tires above what they will need in them, like the max or close and then while in a parking lot or something similar on pavement / concrete put some chalk all the way across the tread of the tire and then drive straight for about 100 meters. Then check out the chalk lines and air down the tires some till you can drive it straight and it will take all the chalk off of the tire to just shy of the inner / outer edge. Once you get there right down each tire what they take in your book / owners manual and you will know what they should be at every time you check them. Make sure to drive straight though to get a good reading on the front tires.
Should do this with cold tires. But either way check them the same way after this tire pressure wise.
On my 235/85 16s I found 28/24front/rear to give the most even temps across the surface. The factory sticker in the doors states 27.5/50 psi for the truck fully loaded (500kg). Generally since i have kids in the rear a good portion of the time i run 28/28. I check with a tire probe- also helps dial in the toe settings for a particular set of tires. the probes are a investment. Race shops such as Pegasus stock them. Its really the only way to know for sure what works for your truck with your tires.
