Hey all,

So upon inspection from changing over my summer set to my winter a few months back, I found a gouge/pit on one of my side walls. Seems fairly superficial and likely the only concern would be if a caught another rock in the exact same location, it is just more likely to fail. They are KO2s in C ply. In y'all's humble opinion, how concerning is this? As winter will soon be over, I need to make a decision on how to handle (I bought from Costco, and they only have about 5K miles on them...so I have been meaning to contact them).
I hesitate in asking, as it is an over asked item, but how many of you swear by E ply over C for off-roading???:deadhorse:

I have seen similar questions before, around the interwebs, but I wanted to check with people I trust ;)

Thanks!

I'd see what Costco says. I'd run that if they won't replace it. At 5k miles though you could buy one new one and toss that one on as a spare.

Yes, I do like E rated tires when available. C rated tires do flex nice on the trails!

I agree with Rezarf since you already own them.

I run E on the 100 series. It’s heavy (6500 lbs or so). Ride is a bit harsh at 42 psi. But aired down at 22psi on gravel roads is pure Cadillac buttery goodness. And 10 ply tires are tuff off pavement. Seems like C rated is the way for 40s since they weigh nearly nothing in comparison. Not sure how heavy your Tacoma is with all the gear you have. But E might be a better fit for the next set.

Thanks @90WT and @REZARF for the guidance. Like most things in life, there is compromise. I was trying to avoid some weight where I could when I first decided on C rated, as the Taco already doesn't like the weight I already have and sizing up in tire. I run a little over 5K lbs without any gear, so fully loaded I may push close to 6K lbs. I like the idea of looking at Es on my next purchase (maybe I will re-gear and add a locker by then ).

I'm a staunch E tire person; I can live with the harsh ride (the Prado is no limo anyway) for the peace of mind I get not worrying about my sidewalls off road.

10 ply on everything, the 40 rides rough regardless same with the mini's and i'm allergic to unnecessary tire issues. one thing i'll do different is i'm not going to have them siped on the 40, pulling the trailer it just eats up the rears

" i'm allergic to unnecessary tire issues."

I'd run that tire

Last summer going up to boulder lakes in the 40 on gravel the whole way. I stopped and went down to 8-10 psi on my 35" hankook dynapro mt's ... Almost Cadillac lol just have to go really low in the 40 lol
