I am checking the clearances on the valves and was wondering if the mark should be exactly cantered because this looks like it is left of center. I just replaced the headgasket and had the head milled. I used the OEM thickness gasket. Could that be the issue or the chain on the crank gear is off a tooth or 2? All other markings line up, cam, balancer timing marks and piston are all at TDC.

Thought or suggestions on how to get this to center if it is off? thanks a lot!!

Do you have slack in the chain on the tensioner side? How much was the head milled? I don't think you're off far enough to be a tooth off on either sprocket, but it's been a while since I had a look-see inside one.
If it were me I would go ahead and do the valve clearance check and proceed as if all is hunky-dorey.

Nope no slack on the tensioner side. I can't tell in the FSM if the dimple and bright link need to be perfectly verticle

Could that just be from wear on the chain and gear? Seems like adjusting the timing at the distributor would easily compensate for that amount of wear.

looks like its center for the tooth of the sprocket.

Do the single dot and double dots on the two camshaft gears line up like they should?

Yeh they line up perfect with the balancer marking too 0 deg TDC

I would say you are not off of a tooth. If it were mine, I think I might button it up and see how she runs.

Yeh I went ahead and did my clearance measurements, I have another question.

I had one measurement on the exhaust side, on the cylinder #3 one measured at .25 and the other at .35 Both within spec but do I need to make the numbers equal on both lobes?

Are your clearances given in inches? Looks more like hundredths of a mil.....
Not having the book handy, I would just say off-hand that ideally you want your clearances in the center of the allowable range, so if one of those is at either end of the envelope and one is in the middle, make them the same (both in the middle), but I used to be a little bit anal about that kind of stuff.
