I am planning on doing the following on my 99 LX470 this weekend. I've bought most of the parts, all OEM.

1. Timing belt
2. Various pulleys, etc.
3. Tensioner
4. Waterpump

Hoses look great.

Considering cam and crank seals. Is there very much involved in doing those while I'm in there?

Any other items that I should consider?

Crank and Cam seals are easy while you have it apart.

How many miles?

There are a lot of other PM things to inspect and replace depending how many miles are on the LX.

How many miles are you at? That will determine a lot of what you replace. I needed to replace every single bearing in every pulley, a fan clutch and my radiator was showing signs of stress cracking. I also broke my water outlet during removal because the previous owner had used some sort of RTV/sealant which bound up the part. It's supposed to just have a simple O-ring seal.

If you're at 90k you may be ok replacing just the basics. If you're at 180k+ you may need to replace much more like I did.

For the cam/crank seals, yes, absolutely replace them. Easy to do now, huge pain if they fail later.

It's got 247,000 Miles on it. Many things were neglected, I'm doing them one at a time.

The following is what I would change while you have it apart based on those miles.

Fan bracket, fan clutch, any hose that looks bad and T-stat. Unless they look like they have been replaced before.

Below is the link for the all out list of things to consider. By no means do you have to all of the items. It is just a good list to review for the future.

+1 Fan bracket and Thermostat!

I presume the fan bracket because it has a bearing? Fan pulley too? Or no? OEM Bracket is $200...

I'm there with you. I was starting to compile a list too. The starter is under the intake manifold apparently too. I am a noob to the 100 series and haven't even checked the oil yet let alone any work. Picked up this past Sunday. I will be following this.

Rock Auto

Heater "T's" B007ZCS530
water pump Aisin WPT800
TYC Starter TYC117748
80 amp Alternator 2100281

Use

Aisin FBT-002 fan bracket it is same as OEM
Aisin FCT-021 fan clutch it is also same as OEM but much cheaper.

Identical to OEM? Huge difference in price.

Aisin makes a number of OEM toyota parts.

Do the cam and crank seals @ 247k. Take note (picture) of the installed position before you remove them so you get the right depth when you install- this will ensure they dont leak. Be careful to remove as not to nick or scratch the seat.

I used an oem fan bracket, but it was identical to the AISIN. Right around $100. If your fan clutch is good - change it another day, not hard to get to.

Accessory/serpentine belt tensioner if original prob could be done- its not easy to get at as a stand alone job.

Take care to do a thourough cooling system flush- and heater T’s if its been 5 yrs or more. Use a new thermostat and gasket, new radiator cap.

Have fun.....

BTW, your key went out today and I did include a note about the Volvo. Let me know what you/she thinks!

Yeah, lots of Aisin parts are like that. Aisin is one of the premier suppliers for Toyota. As long as it's genuine Aisin you're in good shape.

If you're at 247k I'd plan on replacing every single bearing on the front of the engine. Buy the parts ahead of time online and you'll save a bundle. I was forced to buy a few parts from local dealers after digging in and paid an extra few hundred in local dealer markups vs buying online. My local dealer charges a reliable 50%+ more than EB Toyota online. It's crazy.

OEM vs Aisin. Can't say they are identical but Aisin is good enough for me.

I am not sure the one on the left above is OEM. He is a picture of a OEM fan bracket off of a 2004 LC it has the same markings as the Aisin you have pictured above.

The car has been serviced by dealer for the first 180k miles until I bought it. I assumed it is either OEM from the day the car was built or dealer service.

So, I managed to get almost everything apart, need to remove the fan bracket next.

I'm watching the @OTRAMM video, it's for a 2004. I've got a 99. So a few questions.

Removing timing belt. Do I need to 0 the crankshaft while the timing belt is on? 0, or X off of zero, or?

Replacing cam seals - What is the right way to position them?

Crank seal - When it's in the right position do I just remove the crankshaft bolt?

Is there a better thread to follow? Or video specific to 99? I've not found one.
