Guys,

I need to replace my timing belt. I'm planning to replace tensioner and water pump as well. I've got a question about the idle pullies. Can you replace the bearings? or is it a full replacement item?

Also, i did not buy any seals or t-stat. Do you guys normally replace those as well?

Thanks,

Mark

PS: Yes... I did search.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the oil seals. Thermostat wouldn't be bad either since the coolant will be drained.

Other items to keep in mind while you have things apart: radiator hoses, serpentine belt

We've always recommended that you replace pretty much everything that resides behind the timing cover....lots of o-rings and seals. Replace them. Pulleys--replace them. Bearings are not sourced through Toyota.

Thanks guys!

Too bad! IS the bearing pressed in? If so, do you know if NAPA or others have replacements?

Beno,

I see this list posted, would you consider it complete ?

16100-59275-83 - Water pump (complete assembly including gasket)
13568-09070 - Timing belt
90916-02586 - Serpentine belt
90915-YZZD3 - Oil filter
90916-03100 - Thermostat
16346-50010 - Thermostat gasket
17801-50040 - Air filter
13503-0F010 and 13505-0F010 - Idlers
90311-A0001 - Crank seal
90311-38065 - Cam seal (x2)

TIA

I just did my T-belt, writeup: https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/431177-timing-belt-dummies-writeup.html#post6049754. I bought the correct bearings for the serpentine idlers, but decided they were not replaceable. I work with bearings on machinery, have the equipment to swap them, but these idlers aren't made in a way that makes pushing the old bearings out practical. The pulleys wrapped around the bearings on one side so I couldn't get a tool in there to press them out. One pulley was stamped steel, it's easy to bend those and not know it until problems arise. The other was machined out. The fan pulley bearing was completely unaccessable. All these bearings are at least as big as the bearings in my alternator, air pump, A/C, etc, and I wasn't replacing those either, so I reinstalled with the old bearings and returned the ones I bought.

Now I'm confused... IIRC, 2000UZJ just lost all of the bearings from his idlers due to mud. If Toyota doesn't offer replacements and you can replace with aftermarket bearings then how did he get his fixed?

Must've bought new idler pulleys with bearings in them. I'd hate to replace the whole fan bracket for the bearing in there, I'd probably get medieval on that before giving up and buying a new one. Anyone gotten to that bearing?

Pulley failed and came apart in the engine belt pulling into the service bay. Bearings were all over the engine bay.

Sounds like driver error...
