So I found this LC that appears to be in pretty decent shape inside. Looks sharp in pictures but some rust has started as it's spent most of it's life in MN, OH, MI. It's a a Lexus dealership in Detroit which is 3hrs away. They were nice enough to send some pics of rust that has started on the paint and the frame. The timing belt and water pump need replaced yet and AHC probably needs service too but works. Thoughts? Worth the trip and price?

The year model is never a big concern of mine. But rust, wrecks, maintenance and miles are my biggest concerns.

In my opinion, I think this price is too high for the amount of rust but, I am no expert. I bought a 2001 LX 470 with 107,000 miles for $11,600.00 and the only rust that I can find is on some of the bolts and we are talking very minor.

I might add down here in South Alabama we see little to no rust, so my mechanic acts like even a tiny bit of rust is like AIDS & he shouldn't get it on his hands!

I recently bought an 07' LX with about that much rust , maybe a bit less , it also lived in the Mid-West. I'd say give it a shot if all other areas check out, maintenance, Carfax, test drive etc.

Pristine 100 series that are completely rust free are hard to come by and are in even higher demand. If you really want to get into a 100 series you may have to make some compromises or be prepared to wait and pay top dollar...

Thank guys. I was thinking the price was a bit high still too but trying to decide what's fair. It's closer to me than GA, FL, or other sunshine states. I'm not afraid of rust per se but want to price it so i can have some money to spend neutralizing it as best as I can.

Price is a little high for the rust I see there and the lack of the 90k service. Use that as a negotiating tactic along with the TB/WP. That's a 2k job at the dealership and nearly 20k overdue if it's 108k. If they threw in the 90k service (TB/WP and more), I'd think $18k would be fair. The surface rust can be mitigated and doesn't look terminal in the photos above. You could run fluid film in the frame to protect it. Definitely want to check the shock mounts and make sure mounting points aren't rusted through.

Too much rust, too much $. That's my opinion anyway.

I think you would be better off spending $500 on a plane ticket and driving the 12-16 hours to Columbus from Texas or Oklahoma with a rust free rig. I think that much rust will be tough to tame

I want this thing to last a long while. I'm starting to think more and more that I need to head south for a vehicle with no rust. But I may need to trade off with older and higher milage too. Right now is also hard to get away for a full day to 2 days.

If it is well cared for, in my opinion, the miles hardly matter.

Not a bad price minus the rust, TB service and the horribly bald tires. Those should factor into not only the price but how the previous owner treated the vehicle. Going 20k over a major service and not buying tires... not a good look

Ya, the tires do appear to be in pretty horrible shape too. Man, the more I soak in the pictures, the more I realize how overpriced this is. Unless they come way down, I'm going to pass on this one. It doesn't seem to have been cared for very well. Thanks all!

If you are willing to spend 18k on a hundy there are much better ones out there! Best of luck.

I just picked up an 06 2 weeks ago. Interior looks exactly the same as yours, My exterior i think is in a little better shape I have no rust spots or anything on body panels, undercarriage is slightly better than the above pictures, but not much. And mine has 102,000 miles I paid the same as that asking price. I was looking around for a couple of months, and most I could find in better condition were a few thousand more.

Anytime I did find one for a cheaper price it was gone before I could even call them. I was only able to search a couple of times a day.

I am happy with the deal I got. Do I think I could have done better if I was able to wait longer? yes. Do I feel like I overpaid or got screwed? Not at all.

I got a descent deal on mine and think I paid around the going rate for the year/ mileage/ condition

This is all I needed to see:
