How are you reattaching your shocks? I have a '69 FJ40 and I have redone my driveline and moved my rear axle back significantly (8-10".)

Initially I had planned on attaching the shocks to the original mount on the axle, and welding a hanger through the original frame x-member mounts out the rear side of the x-member. I have found now that won't work.

The axle sits ~2" behind the rear x-member, and I have an idea or two floating around how I want to solve the issue, but am interested in what other folks have done.

Looking at mine, I have reversed the rear springs , Which is about 6" longer wheel base, I have my shocks mounted on the rear of the cross member and axle, I dont see why you couldnt use the rear of the cross member and the front of the axle.

The problem I am running into is that the rear-facing mounts I welded on the x-member to do this are almost perfectly centered over the rear axle. If I mount in front of the axle, they have to tilt back too far to work, if I mount on the back of the axle they have to tilt forward, hence my dilemma.

Shocks are over-rated. How about just installing an additional crossmember to mount to?

i have mine off right now and am installing reversed fj60 springs which move axle back quite a bit. Am planing to add a crossmember once axle is on. Good thread, i'll also be watching

Just add a crossmember

Mark...

Ok well in doing my spring over i fliped the rear springs now atm i have my shocks in the stock location on the cross member and atached to the front of the axle but im looking at moving them and adding a cross member in to align the shocks for a better angle and i will prolly fab mounts on the axle as well

This is what I did.

Kent - do you have any pics of your setup? I hadn't contemplated this approach before, but several folks are recommending it.

Tks....
