2004 LEXUS LX 470 - 4WD - Excellent Condition

New to these so looking for opinions on if this is beyond a tolerable level of rust.

Thanks.

Run away. Very Very far away from it. Although yo may have problems finding a rust free one in NY as what they put on the roads in the winter is horrendous

Not even for free...

Notice everybody posting is either from the south or western part of the US so of course for them this is crazy rust.

Most northern trucks especially the NE coast and midwest are gonna look like that... and they still run for many years and hundreds of thousands of miles no problem. Just a pain in the ass to work on that's all.

True. We southerners are spoiled. Shopping for a proven vehicle is worth flying down here for a good one and drive it home.

Sacrilege to drive these fine vehicles above the Mason-Dixon Line.

Yup, but why does that matter? Rust is rust we don't want someone buying what is considered an unsafe vehicle. That rust on the frame and manifest itself into much more serious stuff.

I get that you guys up north are used to rust. But get this - you are allowed to leave, buy a truck and return home. I simply do not understand why anyone would buy a rusty truck. The cost to go get a rust-free truck will be offset by ONE rust repair. A buddy of mine has spent several thousand dollars (brakes, exhaust, suspension...) on rust repair for a 100 that "wasn't that bad".

And yeah OP, that one's not even close. Run.

What I don't understand is that if one is willing to pay for what these trucks are worth for their age, why not look further out? Shipping a vehicle isn't as much as people think. (I've had a handful of vintage muscle cars shipped) Driving a 100 home could be a pleasure.

Rust is manageable. If the price reflects the work involved, why not. If you have access to a lift, a wire brush, rust converter, rust preventer, sealer, undercoat, and a s*** ton of time and patience then go for it. Just make sure that rust is not deep. Also, be prepared for more than just the rust to give you issues. All of the rubber components will likely need attention as well with that kind of corrosion. I would much rather find a rust free car from Cali and go get it (or like LEX said and have it shipped) but I also wouldn't shy from the rust work if the price was right!!!!

COMPLETE noob question...but can anyone tell me what that part is of the left hand side of the picture, with the metal shield and holes in it? Similarly, what's the tank thing on the right? Is that the gas tank shield or muffler??

I know, I'm ignorant as all hell, but not too proud to ask, thanks =]

Eh.... no. I am used to surface rust, and last I checked, NH was not in the south or western part of the country. But I seriously wouldn't even take that truck for free. No way.

For 13k it's not worth it. The average person here doesn't have time to deal with rust the way it needs to be. In order to properly adress the rust you'd need to pull the body off so you have access to the top of the frame rails. You'd also want to have someone check it to see how far the rust has penetrated, which would cost even more money.
