Think this is a good deal?

Found this a few miles from me. That 200' of SS cable really has me drooling. I could put 100' on the spool and have plenty of extra for whatever. Whenever I do get my hands on an 8274 I was planning on doing an in-depth rebuild following Flintknapper's thread from a couple years ago, so I figure this guy's already done half the work for me I wouldn't be surprised if a couple minor parts were missing, but I figured I could get anything I needed from Warn. Not sure about the motor though. I've found a few that're made in Chine (NO), but would like to try to source a Bosch motor if they make one.

Thoughts?

I'd double check on the SS cable though (as in, is it really SS? and if so, is that really the most suitable cable for winch use, strength and durability wise?)

The cable does not look like stainless to me. Looks galvanized.

Check on the cable. It is an OK deal if you have all the parts you need (minus the motor - buy a good motor, not a cheap one) and you don't mind reassembling. I'd rather pay $800 for a 8274 in decent shape than $300 for one disassembled, with a burnt out motor, and possibly missing parts. Anything disassembled like that stands a fair chance of being a money pit.

The ad states that there's no motor (or at least that a new one is needed), and also I didn't notice any solenoids. I'd buy new on both (again, try to find Bosch parts if they can be had) in that case, and at least buy new solenoids no matter what I get. Aside from a visual inspection (and checking to see if it's annotated on the wooden spool), is there any way to ensure that the cable is in fact stainless steel and not galvanized? e9999 raised a good point that I'm curious to find out, too; whether stainless better than standard steel for a winching application, or if standard or galvanized steel would be better.

eventhough, you raise a good point too with the possibility of missing parts. I would expect a couple minor parts to be missing, though it looks like all the major stuff is there based on the pics. I don't care if the solenoid cover is mangled, since I'll buy the aluminum one being sold in the vendors section. That'd be one less thing to be concerned about if it's missing or busted.

The cable looks like galvanized to me.

IMO, and what I understand from the properties of stainless steel, it would not make a good winch cable. Stainless is much more dense than non stainless and as such is a bit more brittle. I dont think it would handle the spooling on and off the drum on a regular basis without weakening the cable. Stainless works well with a stationary static load where corrosion is an issue, and "should" have a higher tensile strength size for size depending on construction, but I dont think it would work well on a winch.

Winch is gone, but cable should still be available. I bought the winch a month ago. Everything (excluding motor) was there. I didn't purchase the cable, because I didn't want to pay to ship it across the US. I am going to use synthetic winch line.

There is an 8274 about half an hour from me on a 40 that has been for sale for awhile. Has cable and everything looks to be there IIRC. Want me to grab a phone #? It is in Easley, SC so it would have to be shipped.

Thanks for the offer, but the $300 was about the max I could allocate to anything else at this point (and it's probably best that it didn't happen because of the baby eating us out of house and home, heh). I might just have to wait for a deployment and get the bull bar I want and an 8274 with those funds.
