I have been debating on this for a few months and want some opinions. I have a 1991 80 series and love it. There are a few issues I have. One is I have two vehicles that I barely drive. One is the 80 and the other is an Acura TL. I have a company vehicle so I only drive one of the two on the weekends. I am thinking about selling both of them and getting a 100 series. But I am not sure if this would be a wise choice to get rid of my 80...I could care less about the TL. Below are my reasons.

. As stated above..I don't need 2 vehicles
.I think a 100 series would be more comfortable to have as a daily driver (on the weekends)
.100 series is still a Land Cruiser
.I am assuming I will have less maintenance and upgrades to do on a 100 series
.I don't need 2 vehicles
.My 80 is getting to be 25 years old and is starting to need a lot of maintenance and TLC

What are the Pros and Cons?

I've two 80's and now a Hundy. The 100 series is so much better than an 80. Once you own a Hundy you will never drive anything else. Just sayin.

We have both. I drive the 80, and my wife mostly drives the 100 series. I prefer the 100 series for the following reasons:

Better gas mileage (albeit barely)
More peppy engine
Larger
Heavier
Much better brakes
ATRAC better than 80 w/non-locking front and rear diffs
Center seats have shoulder belts
Doors that don't sound hollow when shutting
Slightly better towing capacity
Quieter

I still love my 80, and won't replace it with a 100 unless the 80 expires for whatever reason. But, when it does, the replacement will be a 100 series

i have had 60's 80's and 100's have 2 100' and one really nice 97 lx450 the 80 just sits and gets washed some I all but never drive it.. you will never regret having a 100.... everytime some wants to buy my 80 I talk them into finding a 100 instead.... search the web and you won't find anyone who ownes a 100 and says it sucks...

If you can , buy a 100s and drive it for a little while .. then thin the fleet .. one big reason for me to prefer the 100 over the 80, as life goes on towing toys becomes more important... and did someone say power.

since you're asking in the 100 forum, it's likely you will get one-sided responses. You may want to ask also in the 80 forum to get the other side as well.

I've never owned an 80, but looked at buying one for a long time. Test drove many of them, but never found the right one to pull the trigger. Didn't think I could afford a 100 and I was mixed on the looks, but when I found my '03 with the 18 in wheels and updated interior, it felt leaps and bounds nicer than the early 100's and 80's. I like the Hundy better than any vehicle I've ever owned and will pass this down to my son in a few years and buy an '06-'07.

If you're selling the 80 and TL, you can probably get into an '06-'07 LC. Most of them came with AHC, which creates more maintenance at best, and an expensive suspension replacement at worst. All LX 470's came with AHC. Do some research on it. A lot of guys on here love it and others have gone through the expense of replacing it with something conventional like OME.
