Corollas kick ass on flat gravel roads.
There wasn't anything flat about it in 94, the rill in the middle of the road was a foot high of gravel and rocks, I had to drive with one wheel riding on the rill, the other on the edge of the road. There was no paint left on the sills or bottom of the doors, had to pull all the seats out to jump up and down and flatten all the floor pan back out. Exhaust was totaled.

Exactly, the track is narrow enough to allow you to ride the middle hump and the shoulder, as long as you don't crimp the rear brake line you can beat the crap out of the floor pan. Front wheel drive lets you "Tokyo Drift", as long as the front wheels are pointed where you want to go you usually get there.

I never said it was good for the car.:grinpimp:

You have 274k miles and haven't once been plagued by the starter contacts? I get maybe 90k miles out of a starter.

Nope. Absolutely no issues. Of course, it will probably break tomorrow.;)

If I drove my current LX470 to 274k miles I would be to old to drive by the time I accumulated that many miles. I never want my wife to know that our LX can last that long, if I did I could never justify getting a newer one ;)

Well you fooled her on the first five! :-)

If your wife runs off with the keys, your dead in the water!! Seriously, If you loose the key, there is no way to get it running without another key that matches your ECU, or so I have heard. John

Anyone have a secure and waterproof trick for hiding a key? Was in a remote corner of the state last weekend. While fishing I pulled my benchmade out and keys came with it. Fortunately I have an aluminum keyfob and heard the clink on a rock. Losing the only key within 300 miles would definitely be a bad day.

I want something more secure than the little magnetic boxes. Those aren't waterproof either. Was thinking maybe a pill bottle zip tied up under one of the bumpers. Anything more elegant that anyone is doing?

I had a valet key made and I wear it around my neck when I surf. It's a fully functional transponder key, minus the remote buttons. You could easily zip tie one to a hidden location under the truck too. This one here: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=321094951740

Great idea Larry. Valet key isn't something that came with the truck but would be easy to make.

Valet key around the neck or you could just have your wife sit in the car while you fish ;)

If your going on long trips in the middle of nowhere, you can't prepare for everything, sometimes the totally unexpected happens, so you have to tell somebody where abouts your going and when your will be checking in with them on your status and when they should worry if you don't check in. I always think about that dude in moab that had to cut his arm off, he had lots of survival stuff, but if he had told somebody where he was going, chances are things would have gone a lot better for him.

I have a valet key in my glove box and another key that will just open the doors JB Welded to 2 neodymium magnets and stuck to the inner frame rail in the rear. I've gone through all kinds of mud holes and flying down trails and that key has hung in there for about 4yrs now. If I ever break/lose the fob on my key ring I can just grab the key under the truck, unlock the door, and use the valet key in the glove box to get home.
