Neanderthal no that is the hj45
These hj75 are still primitive beasts built to last but the 5 speed and air con and extra leg room helps big time on comfit.

I'm finding out just how well built they are. I've owned an fj40 for thirty years, and while it is well built, the "creature comforts" you mention, five speed, a/c, as well as other industry advances, makes the 7x series an incredible platform and a worthy successor to the 40 series. I've only owned this truck for a few weeks and the more I poke around, the more impressed I am. It shows its age and it needs stuff that any 25 year vehicle does but overall, a great vehicle...

Okay, I have given the ute a fairly good going over and have done an initial assessment and baseline. Fluids were all changed so that's all good. While driveable, it needs things that any 25 year old vehicle would need. It has a leaking clutch m/c and slave cylinder. Parts are ordered. Speedo cable-sounds like a flock of seagulls in the cab. On order. Tool kit is far from complete so I need to get a jack, spare tire crank and lug wrench.
Windows wind down easy enough but don't go back up without a fight. New window regulators ordered. All mirrors; side and rear view are shot. The adjustment capabilities are shot. New ones on order. New heater control on order. New radiator cap ordered. Now I'm just waiting on delivery do I can get a few things done before I place another order...

One other thing I discovered leads to a couple of questions. While looking at suspension, the shocks, mostly covered with undercoating/dirt appear to be yellow so I naturally assumed them to be OME. However, after a little scraping, the shocks are actually Oz Tech brand. Of course, I had never heard of them so I did a search and there isn't a lot of info that I can find. They seem to be a decent shock but I'd like to know more. From information I did find, it appears that they carry a lifetime warranty so that leads me to believe they must be pretty good. Is anyone running these or know anything about these shocks?

Thanks. It sounds like they manufacture a pretty good product.

The oils not from the swivel hub is it

I'm not sure what a swivel hub is exactly but I'm pretty sure the shock is gone. Its a little disappointing as I would liked to use those funds for
something else on my list of needs but, oh well. Sorry for the poor pix. The daylight is gone for the day. Thanks for opining...

Yeah she's rooted mate the shock that is. swivel hub is a steering knuckle

If the windows are difficult to wind up, it is most likely years of grime and filth in the runners. This tends to make them stick which causes them to tilt slightly make them even harder to wind up. Clean the runners and see how they go.

If you can afford Koni there the best in my book as they can be adjusted for ride and rebuilt when there spent.

Put some silicone spray in your window rubbers that will lube em right up

Thanks! They were difficult to wind up so I tore the door apart, cleaned everything up. I even replaced the window regulators but in retrospect a good cleaning and lube would have been enough.

While replacing the window regulators I lubed the window rubber and they work slick now. The wing/ventilator windows are another story. I took them apart, cleaned 'em up, lubed 'em, put them back together and they still leak and whistle. Time for new rubber. They are in order. Thanks.

I'll look into Koni. I knew they had extensive experience in the sports car world from my days of driving old BMWs but I didn't know they produced an off road shock. Makes sense though. I'll check them out. Thanks. They must be spendy...

The shocks from Toyota are koni shocks with Toyota sticker on them normally cheaper to get through Toyota here then from other sources
