This is the first time I am changing my oil
Are these guys putting on the small o-ring the correct way?
Mine just fell out as I took off the "plug" so I cannot see what is going on.

Does this happen to you? The oil stream down towards the center of the car and get oil over the plastic plate.
and I am cleaning the oil that splash onto the wheel as soon as drain plug is removed.

If you are asking if it goes between the plug and the bottom of the filter cartridge housing, then yes.

If you are jacking up the passenger side of the car to do the oil change, then i suppose it makes sense that this is what will happen. Get a fumoto or ez valve and you won't have to worry about that. Or just use ramps or jack the truck evenly.

It runs down on the bottom of the pan then onto the cover pretty easily, even when it's level. Surface tension. Major reason I remove the whole under-engine skid for oil changes when I had the stock parts.

Thank you, the small O-ring go back in a recessed slot and is easier to assemble this while it is off the car.

I took the rear plastic plate off to clean up, next time I may take the whole thing off before I start.

The filter housing is super tight and needed a breaker bar, I torqued it to 18 ft lbs.

Yes, this seems to happen as initial changes from new at Toyota to 30k to maintain warranty resulted in oil dripping onto my garage floor. Nasty stains. Removed the factory cover and found a mess. Cleaned it up with degreaser and back to new, I decided right there to DIY my oil changes. I remove the cover, just a few bolts using an electric wrench. Also allowed me to switch to original 3UR-FE spec oil (5W30). Engine now runs audible smoother. Worth considering this change.

As stated above, a fumoto or ez valve or valvomax (bought the later as I like the design and seal redundancy when you put the cap on it) will allow you to direct the oil and prevent any splash and initial plug removal mess.
