Well, I finally was able to see my new Pig, I really can't believe that I actually own one. I am pretty happy with the purchase, all of the engine parts are there and intact(minus the air rail which has holes), the interior is complete and in relatively good shape(minus the rear cargo panels), the electrical parts are working great and without glitches including the rear hatch widow, lights, etc..., the frame engine and drivetrain all look to be in good shape(minus the front and rear bumpers), and the roof, hood, front bezel are in almost perfect shape. Now for the negatives. I will start with the rust, I figured it would have some, but not as extensive as I thought. The lower front fenders are shot(which I knew), but the uppers are completely shot as well(I didn't know), the lower 4" of all doors including the hatch are shot(which I knew), but the inside is in good enough shape for easy repair. The front passenger door has a nasty dent in the upper metal, pretty much beyond repair(I didn't know), and passenger side rear corner is pushed in(I didn't know). What it looks like to me was the Cruiser must have had some encounter with a tree or something on that corner. There are other positives and negatives, but I think I can work with it. I give the Cruiser a 10 for excitement, and a 3 for dissappointment, for an overall rating of 7.

Now for the real questions and problems. I am about 3/4 of the way through my FJ40 project so I don't want to start anything on the 55, but I hate to see problems and not fix them, what should I do? Next, I would like to drive the 55 while doing the restoration, what are the odds of finding a late model body to work on while I keep mine on the road?

Thanks in advance for all the help and advise

seems they come up from time to time but are mostly from good preservation geographies like high deserts, etc....

I think you should post some pictures to make this thread useful:grinpimp:

I will see if I can get some pictures tonight

Sorry, I have been busy looking at the 55 :D The more I look the more excited I am. I did find 8 pictures, I will see if I can get them posted, I have to find some freeware that will change the size(pixels). The pictures don't show the extent of the rust, especially in the upper front fenders, it also doesn't show the door damage as well as the rear pillar damage. I will have to get those later.

I just noticed, one of the pictures did show the dent in the door and I just missed it.

Scott,

Looks pretty good.

Post up on the parts wanted section or classified on this forum to see if anyone has some fenders to sell. I just bought 2 cherry ones off Mikesta who is parting out a rig for my '72 so they are out there.

Based on this last posting - it's seems like you are a bit more satisfied now than when you first got it.

Keep the pics coming.

I am very satisified, I didn't realize how fun they would be to drive.

The fenders are awful, in those pictures the top section looks fine, but when I got it home I put my hand right through them.

I will post in the wanted section for needed parts, but I just don't know where to start, too many needed parts. I may wait for Heritage Sheet Metal to make some new panels and not have to worry about even repairing old parts.

I do know I need to get rid of my ugly mirrors and find some stock ones.

AZkick-n40, I tried the person in the link, great guy to talk to and quick with responses, but he was already cleaned out of items I needed right now. Thanks for the heads up, I will continue to look.

thanks

I'm guilty for the fenders and a few other parts. Oh well - keep at it.
